NFTs could create a deeper ownership layer for users who actually want exposure to a protocol’s revenue “I don't think it replaces buybacks. I think they both can exist at the same time” “NFTs could be another way that you can share in a business revenue” “There's kind of...

Revenue-linked NFTs sound great until regulators call them what they are: securities. Also splits liquidity and attention away from the token. Two layers of ownership, double the dilution risk.

That would actually be a great utility for NFTs. Now it's just community and exclusivity, making the whole nft marketplace basically worthless. MadLads is a good example

Segmenting users into distinct levels of alignment is a sharp framework, as token buybacks drive broad value to passive holders while revenue-linked NFTs offer a specialized instrument for long-term power users seeking direct skin in the game. Rather than competing with traditional tokenomics, structured digital collectibles can act as a high-conviction tier that deepens community loyalty and aligns protocol incentives directly with core participants.

why not mint those NFTs by locking the token? gives existing holders a way into the revenue share without having to buy a second asset

As a first-time founder building Coinage ♻️ over the last few years, I've learned some lessons: - Never make the same mistake twice - Don't be afraid to admit you're wrong (but understand why you were) For three years, I avoided launching a token. The economics weren't sustainable and didn't allow for much of anything outside of speculation, given you could only buy, hold, or sell. Rather than just having a token, our thesis was figuring out a legal way to let people come together to co-own our media outlet at Coinage would be paramount. I did not want to invite people into another Mexican stand-off against people who were earlier than them or have anyone dumped on. I know people think NFTs came and went, but we committed the last 3 years to figuring out how they could be used to enable legitimate co-ownership via an onchain DAO/Co-op here in the US. And we cracked the code. After establishing that, $zora came along. Their model corrected for a lot of the problems I had with memecoins of the past. Then Coinbase 🛡️ leaned into supporting Base builders like Zora. It became clear times had changed. Tokens had become more liquid, standardized, and served as an easier onramp to community than NFTs. But that doesn't mean NFTs didn't matter. They just had to be used right. I actually think the most successful projects are going to be the ones who understand out how to use one correctly to compliment the other. A token without community is worthless. A community without shared ownership isn't a community. At ETHDenver 🏔🦬🦄 this year, I had the privilege of giving a talk on why we used NFTs to set up Coinage ♻️ as the first community-owned media outlet built on Ethereum. We did so for the same reason I first got into Ethereum: Decentralized ownership matters. Watch it and you'll understand the work that went into setting up $COINAGE for the long haul:

𝑬𝒗𝒐𝒍𝒗𝒆𝑻𝑲𝑵: 𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝑫𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑶𝒘𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑴𝒆𝒕𝒂𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒆 Imagine entering a virtual world where you don't just look around. You have your own avatar. You can own digital items, explore different places, interact with people, build something of your own. That the things you collect and build can have ownership recorded on a blockchain. That is where Evolve Pro ecosystem become interesting. ✦ 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑫𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝑫𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑶𝒘𝒏𝒆𝒓𝒔𝒉𝒊𝒑 𝑴𝒆𝒂𝒏? In many traditional games, you can buy or earn digital items, The platform still controls them. Blockchain offers a different approach. It can record ownership of digital assets in a verifiable way. NFTs can represent unique assets such as virtual land, vehicles, avatars and collectibles. The important thing isn't simply owning an NFT. The question is what you can do with it. ✦ 𝑽𝒊𝒓𝒕𝒖𝒂𝒍 𝑳𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝑪𝒂𝒏 𝑩𝒆 𝑴𝒐𝒓𝒆 𝑻𝒉𝒂𝒏 𝑺𝒑𝒂𝒄𝒆 Imagine having your own piece of land inside the EVOP Metaverse. You could potentially use it as a personal space, shop, meeting place or another digital experience. Instead of simply visiting a virtual world, users can potentially help shape it. ✦ 𝑨𝒗𝒂𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒔 𝑪𝒂𝒏 𝑩𝒆 𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝒐𝒇 𝒀𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝑫𝒊𝒈𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒍 𝑰𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒕𝒚 Your avatar can be more than just a character. You can customize it with clothes, accessories and digital items that represent your style and progress. As the metaverse grows, digital identity can become an important part of how people interact online. ✦ 𝑾𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝑫𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝑬𝒗𝒐𝒍𝒗𝒆𝑻𝑲𝑵 𝑭𝒊𝒕 𝑰𝒏? Evolve Pro is exploring how virtual worlds, digital assets, blockchain, NFTs and community participation can work together. The aim is to create an ecosystem where users have different ways to explore, interact and participate. ✦ 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑹𝒐𝒍𝒆 𝒐𝒇 $𝑬𝑽𝑶𝑷 $EVOP is the token connected to the EVOP ecosystem. It can potentially connect different products and experiences. Depending on the features developed, it could be used for transactions, rewards, access and other utilities. The key point is utility. A token becomes more meaningful when people have real reasons to use it. ✦ 𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝑪𝒂𝒏 𝑼𝒔𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝑫𝒐? Inside an expanding ecosystem, users can potentially: ➠ Explore different virtual worlds ➠ Customize their avatars ➠ Discover digital assets ➠ Own or develop virtual land ➠ Interact with other users ➠ Complete missions and activities collect NFTs ➠ Use digital assets with different utilities ➠ Potentially earn through supported ecosystem activities This gives users more ways to participate instead of simply visiting. ✦ 𝑯𝒐𝒘 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑷𝒊𝒆𝒄𝒆𝒔 𝑭𝒊𝒕 𝑻𝒐𝒈𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 Think of the EVOP ecosystem as different pieces working together. The Metaverse gives users a world to explore. Blockchain provides the technology for recording ownership. NFTs can represent unique digital assets. Virtual land can give users places to build. Avatars and vehicles can make the experience more personal. $EVOP can potentially connect different utilities across the ecosystem. Together, these pieces create a more connected digital experience. ✦ 𝑾𝒉𝒚 𝑫𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝑴𝒂𝒕𝒕𝒆𝒓? People are spending more time online, making digital ownership an important conversation. EvolveTKN is exploring how people can have more meaningful roles inside digital environments. Instead of only consuming an experience, users can potentially own, build, interact and participate. That is what makes the EVOP Metaverse worth watching. ✦ 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑩𝒊𝒈𝒈𝒆𝒓 𝑰𝒅𝒆𝒂 The metaverse is still developing, and virtual worlds are becoming more connected with blockchain technology and digital assets. EvolveTKN is exploring this space by bringing together the metaverse, NFTs, digital ownership and EVOP utility. The goal is to create an ecosystem where people can explore, own, build and participate. Sign up

Gabe on why he doesn't think Anthropic or OpenAI will own finance: "The reason people get confused when they look at app layer businesses like mine or Harvey or Legora or Sierra is because there's a spectrum of perpendicularity to what the labs are building. There's a whole bunch of stuff underneath the surface that the labs are never going to build, that we need to build for finance. All of finance is a collection of different niches with different data sets, different regulatory requirements. And we can get to $5 billion in revenue by going deep across those things and creating the systems of record that help manage them. That for Anthropic would be like stopping on the side of the road to pick up a penny, because they're on the pathway of trying to go from $100 billion in revenue to a trillion in revenue. Say you are a big public company buying another big public company and you need to send data back and forth. You actually need some sort of data room, something that is compliant, safe and secure. And I don't think OpenAI or Anthropic will ever want to build a data room business. If you actually want to be the exchange for all of high finance, you don't just need to own the intelligence, you need to own the transaction venue, the communication venue, the workflows, and all the data inputs that go into it. Think about the fundamental difference between Claude Code when it came out versus ChatGPT. The models were actually fairly similar, but the harness and the way that it was presented from Claude was far better. The way that you harness these models is so, so important."

Web3 should be paying attention to Cash App’s play to earn game. This is literally play to earn CASH 💸 And it exposes a few uncomfortable truths about our industry: - The direction is right. People clearly want games where they can earn. - We have a distribution problem. Cash App has 60M users. Most Web3 games have none. - We have a marketing problem. The idea is good, but we’ve struggled to reach the mainstream. Their model is also different. Cash App already makes money from its digital banking services, and they already have a massive user base. That allows them to redirect part of their marketing budget into a game instead of something like a Super Bowl ad. So in a way, the rewards are simply a different form of marketing spend. New games don’t have that advantage. They first have to build a user base, generate revenue, and then distribute rewards. That’s a much harder path. I also think Web3 has failed to push the boundaries. How is it that no Web3 game has meaningfully partnered with a CEX, DEX, prediction market, or perpetual exchange? I’ve been saying this for a long time: DeFi platforms are the best distribution layer for games. Protocols like Uniswap already have: - millions of users - constant on chain activity - strong fee generating business models That means they can easily fund prize pools or reward systems, the same way Cash App can fund rewards from its banking fees. Instead of relying purely on token emissions, games could plug into existing financial platforms with real revenue and real users. The opportunity has been there for years. Web3 just hasn’t pushed the boundaries enough. Let's stop stealing the VC money and get to work!

A deep dive into $SEXY and why I believe this is one of the most undervalued gamefi projects in the ecosystem: A simple beginning of a frictionless gaming experience fitting itself into a mobile game market which produced $123B in revenue in 2023 and an expected groth into $190B into 2030. The current game features a simple UI with strong incentives such a $1M prize pool in tokens lasting from June to September for early users pre-layer 3 buildout. Though simple in design, the transaction volume is telling with 300k user txns within 3 days of opening. The game is very much similar to the old micro transaction mini games such as clash of clans. Daily activities to keep users engaged and retained especially given the incentivization program. My thesis around this is the growth reward potential. Currently as the game sits in a more private beta (only users with codes can participate), we are at the simple version of the ecosystem. As expansion happens and there is more use items, more mini-games, more access, and more use for $SEXY, the value will grow. I imagine the R/R of investing in a game like clash of clans early on, imagine being able to invest in the value of gems in the early days and the value of these changed with user demand. Clash of clans did $360m in revenue in 2023. This model would recreate that volume all flowing into the token (which would be similar to gems). Thus, the thesis is simple: $SEXY ecosystem grows, more usage for active players to use the token within the mini games, more addictive tendencies lead to users wanting to gain more loot, more referrals to beat their friends in the ecosystem all leads to a flywheel of growth; especially, as users are token holders and their dominant strategy is to play the game for incentives and to invite their friends to grow the token value and ecosystem. Personally, I will be staking my $SEXY, collecting loot (imagine the loot can be tradable like early Runescape party hats), building my ranking for the incentives, and encouraging the ecosystem growth as a user in the flywheel. Thus, I believe as time passes, the value of the token continually increases under the assumption the ecosystem is growing with it. Speculation transitions from I think future buyers will find this token a good investment into I think players will buy this token to play the games within the ecosystem. Disclaimer: I am an early investor in ETHXY and so is WWVentures. All thesis generation may be biased.
