This is an extremely dramatic video. There are lots of joysticks (almost all, in fact) with mechanisms just like this that don't experience drift within their service life. The possibility of drift wasn't the issue with Joycons, it was how widespread and quickly it happened.

Unboxing and setup of our new BLG Stormbreaker Gaming Mouse.

Game controllers like the DualSense or the Switch Pro controller or Xbox aren’t hall sensing nor TMR either, so that in itself doesn’t mean they will have the same issues at the same failure rate as the Switch 1 joy-cons.

Never had a single issue with drift in my joycons

why does no one complain about PS5 controller drift and the fact that they use potentiometers?

I’m sick of spending so much money on stuff that’s built to wear out over time. Either make it tougher, cheaper or easier to repair.

Great, I guess we'll be buying new ones every six months.

How about some proof

No, they don’t need to use “different kind of sensor”. Controllers were using this technology for decades without widespread problems. How thick can you guys be?

Imagine that. Another way they can squeeze more money out of people

wait for the hall effect mod kit
