I remember the first time I made my own cat5e cable, and I stripped out the wires and said "oh there so small" and my roommate was walking by and said "stop talking to your dick bro" without every stopping, just zoomed by me. It's fun, but tedious.

I find it quite interesting that not only are each of the four pairs twisted, but they have different twist rates - i.e. a different number of twists per metre of cable. This means that the twists don't line up and the crosstalk between pairs is more randomised. 1/2
