Which prison are the people convicted of state offences under the present arrangement sent to? Just looking for unnecessary excuses. They want perfection in a day. What is wrong with using federal prisons initially while the states are building their own prisons?

It's an evolution, you don't expect everything to be done in one, after all Anambra is just getting its first government house after many years of its creation.

Bldgg prison is not rocket science. A prison can be built in 3 months. What we need is to identify all pertinent issues and address them to enable State Police to work instead wasting time arguing why it won't work. It should be clear to even the blind that Fed Govt can't assure security in the states.

States have have legislature to make laws, Judiciary to interpret laws, but no police to enforce the laws. The bottleneck for states to evolve a working Criminal Justice System was state police. Now states can reform their Criminal Justice Systems at their own pace.

Because people never build house, make dem no marry? As though there are state police stations and vehicles somewhere before now. The law paves way for more laws and more work

Very valid constructive criticism....not all those mumu mob talking about state police harassing and rigging during election as if election occurs all year round.

State policing is a wonderful move but I'm still worried why everything is done in a rush. This will be another case of "subsidy is gone" without proper planing on how to implement it. States should get more from the federal allocation to manage the state policing

Idiotic statement to make. How long will it take for states to build their own prisons and jails? Six months or perhaps 3 months?

The truth is that rushing to implement state police without putting in place the necessary necessities is self-serving. Any good policy that has so many unanswered questions prior to implementation is hasty.

State Policing mirrors the Power Sector Deregulation: rushed, not strategic- and avoiding the REAL issues. The center merely wants to offload blame for insecurity, while the Governors want more control. But 36 separate police authorities in Nigeria is a recipe for disaster!!

Prisons are already decentralised via the 2023 amendments to the Legislative lists. The purpose of the State Policing reforms and the opt-in provisions in its amendments is to ensure States are no longer impedance matched to the least willing States in...

You can even privatize prisons and government will provide regulation and oversight. Government does not have to do everything.
