NOAA have not updated the publicly available magnetic pole data [1] since 2020. The December 2023 State of the Geomagnetic Field report [2] does, however, contain some clues as to how things are progressing: "Since 2020, the north magnetic dip pole has moved at an average speed of 41... km/yr [~36.8° per century], and the south magnetic dip pole at 9 km/yr [~8.1° per century]. Neither underwent any noticeable change in direction. /// The South Atlantic Anomaly, where the geomagnetic field intensity is lowest, has continued to deepen (by about 25 nT at surface level) and move westward (its center moved by about 20 km at surface level) in the past year. /// In the SAA the intensity of the field is about one-third of that near the magnetic poles." Thank you for all the work you’re doing in this area. Something seems amiss at NOAA. My acoustic investigations offshore indicate that NOAA and BOEM appear committed either intentionally or unwittingly to driving the critically endangered North Atlantic Right Whale extinct.

NOAA typically have a 5 year update cycle for their WMM. I'm trusting that we should see a backfill for the past few years when WMM2025 is published later this year. As to the accuracy of the data that they do publish, I think its trustworthy. If it wasn't we'd be seeing ships running aground and aircraft landing in swimming pools. The accuracy of this data is essential to navigation.

Is the ECDO Tau Point triggered when field or pole location data achieve a specific measure?

Craig, is it known that the South Atlantic Anomaly exists because the north and south poles are converging on the other side of the planet? thus, a weakening of the SAA might imply a strengthening of the magnetic field on Asia's side of the world, where the poles are converging?

Magnetic polar wander and the SAA are almost certainly two symptoms of the same process - as the field weakens the dip poles deviate further.
