Israel’s so-called “mutual recognition” is therefore null, void, and without legal effect under: •UN Charter Article 2(4) (prohibition on violating territorial integrity), •UN General Assembly Resolution 2625 (Friendly Relations Declaration), •African Union Constitutive Act Article 4(b) (respect for colonial borders), •and settled ICJ jurisprudence on non-recognition of unlawful situations. You did not recognize a state. You interfered in the internal affairs of the Federal Republic of Somalia, a UN-member state whose sovereignty over this territory is undisputed in international law. Calling this a partnership between “two democratic states” is not only false—it is cynical. The administration you are partnering with: •Shelled civilians in Las Anod (2023), •Killed protesters in Awdal (2024–2025), •Arrests youth for waving Palestinian flags, •Rules through clan militias, bribery, and repression, •And does not permit genuine political pluralism outside one clan structure. That is not democracy. It is authoritarianism dressed up for foreign consumption. Your officials did not arrive openly through lawful diplomatic channels. They entered Somali territory covertly, with flight transponders turned off, without consent from Mogadishu—the only government with legal authority over Somalia’s airspace. That alone exposes this visit for what it truly was: an intelligence-driven operation, not diplomacy. Opening an “embassy” in Hargeisa will not create legitimacy. It will only place Israel in direct violation of international law and align it with: •a collapsing secessionist project, •ongoing human rights abuses, •and a regional destabilization strategy that risks dragging Somali land into Red Sea conflicts, including against Yemen, a people who have lived in peace with northern Somali communities for centuries. Israel is free to make political mistakes. It is not free from legal consequences, diplomatic isolation in Africa, or accountability before international forums. Somalia will remain one country. Hargeisa does not speak for Awdal, Sool, Sanaag, or Somalia. And no amount of press statements will turn a one-tribe fantasy into a sovereign state. International law is not decided by tweets. Sovereignty is not created by recognition theater. And history is unforgiving to those who confuse power with legality. Reality will catch up.
