While nice, they won't last a single day on the road. Too easy to break. Also, they seem quite dangerous. Their purpose is to detter drivers from speeding, not to kill you and people around you if you drive over a certain speed.

The temperature dependence of these materials is huge. In the heat of summer, the speed bump wouldn’t do anything, even for fast moving cars. In winter, the speed bump is always a huge bump at any speed.

Cool idea, until someones gonna poke it with a knife.

Congratulations on further incentivising the purchase of tall gas guzzling pedestrian crushing 4x4s instead of more eco-friendly aerodynamic and safer saloons.

This is a prototype. With a little engineering! If you actually care about slowing vehicles at all, this could make speed bumps much more aggressive if at a higher than designed speed. However, at designed speeds, it barely would feel like it was there.

Speed bumps ought to be illegal. They’re just a nuisance

Use this material to make car covers to protect against hail.
