Non-competes are a trap. They block workers from seeking out higher wages or better conditions. Meanwhile, they sabotage the economy by depriving growing businesses of needed talent. They serve one thing only: corporate monopolies who want to kill off their competition.

@matthewstoller How would you protect intellectual property like client data from being used by an employee? What happens when employees ripe benefits such as paid education, training and increased skillset to then quit and provide insight knowledge to competitors?

@ninaturner I’ve violated 3 non-completes; not only are they toothless most companies don’t want to waste the resources on the litigators. No business actually cares as long as you don’t directly take business from them.

They're not a trap, they're great for self-motivated productive individuals to negotiate on their own behalf. Employers that want an NCA clause are willing to juice total compensation package and term, relative to projected value added of prospective employee, or choose to walk
