It's not "not all men". It's actually "not most men". When I first began studying human behavior and how the brain works, one of the first things I learned about is the RAS in the brain. I can give you the long, technical description about what it does but I'll make it simple. The Reticular Activating System is a "gatekeeper" to what our consciousness gets access to. In general terms, it decides what we're consciously aware of. And the way it works is that whatever we show interest in, it makes us aware of. Real life examples? Shopping. You ever buy something you really wanted, (car, bag, shoes, etc.), and suddenly you start noticing it everywhere you go? All the people who has the same car you do, or the same clothes, or watch, or handbag... That's your RAS at work. The thing you show interest in is the thing that it brings to your conscious awareness, and whether you like it or dislike it makes no difference. Once you give something focus your brain will put resources toward that thing. The RAS is why women say things like "it's not all men, but always a man", or "it's all men until no men". They have to focus on safety, which means they have to give energy to looking out for bad men, so, their RAS makes them consciously aware of bad men - they see them everywhere. But worse, the RAS also does something else... it blocks things from the consciousness too, particularly things you're not interested in. So if you're not interested in seeing good men, your RAS will not let you see them. So, simultaneously, all they see is bad men and don't see good men, so the natural conclusion is "all men". And yes, fellas, we are guilty of it too, especially when you think "all women are ___" (fill in the blank, gold diggers, after a free meal, etc.) Your brain is literally playing a trick on you. That's why both sides of the argument exists. The solution? Exposure to different points of view and new information. PS: There are millions of male babysitters from uncles and older brothers to actual babysitters you can hire.
