Desperate mother wouldn’t stop until someone saved her baby calf 🐄❤️ A desperate mother cow whose calf was stuck in a pond and couldn’t get out. The mother cow kept approaching a car, mooing, looking at the man as if she were “begging” for help for her baby. Although he was very afraid of the large cow, the man bravely came closer and helped rescue the calf. The mother cow stood nearby watching, not attacking, but seemingly asking him to save her baby. It was a touching moment when the cow and her calf were reunited and happily back together. Bless you, Sir! 💖

In Haldwani, There was a rumour that a head of a calf was thrown at the gate of a school near a temple. Right wing organisations immediately gathered to protest chanting religious slogans and vandalised a Muslim's restaurant. Upon Police investigation, CCTV footage showed a dog dragging the remains from a nearby forest area. It was found that a cow gave birth to a calf in a nearby area and parts of the carcass were pulled out by stray animal.

A van stopped out the front this morning and the driver came in to tell us there was a small calf on the road. This was a new calf that was born yesterday in the paddock just over from our house. People assume we're the farmers because our house is the closest to the road, and surrounded by farmland. We're not farmers. 🙄 Although I have often thought farming would probably have suited us.... So hubby went out and found the calf. The man had chased it up the driveway across the road. They weren't home. Heroic hubby carried the calf down the driveway, across the road and up our drive with his sore back that he hurt at the gym the other day. Newborn calves are heavy! Especially when you're just one week back at the gym after 12 years off! 😅 I opened the gate to the paddock out the back and we managed to get the calf in there. It proved to be a stubborn wee thing.... But the poor baby. 🐄 It was shaking and miserable, looking over at the cows in the other paddock where it's mother was. So hubby goes back out into the cold foggy morning, leaving his half prepared breakfast to try to get the calf down the race and back to the paddock with the cows. I wished him luck having seen how stubborn it was when we were trying to get it through the gate! Well blow me down! It followed him like a dog! 😳 He does have a way with dogs - and obviously baby cows like him too. 😂

The hurricane came straight for them and there was a little calf in their pasture that was starting to flood. Her husband took her inside and staight in to the laundry room and laid her down but her nise was ice cold. She was shaking but their dog Sealy began to licking and kissing her and the little calfs eyes opened up and she bagan to get life back again. Sealy stayed at her side like a mom. The vet suggested that the calf should stay in the laundry room or in the house because she didn not have any immunesystem....And she began to think she was one of the dogs... Sealy also had a tough start in her life but she took care of was Harveigh as her own and the entire family will always have a very special bond ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Here, the cows are cared for for life. They are not sold or sent to slaughter, but are allowed to live together in a safe environment. Sir Scotty is Jolene’s calf, a little Longhorn boy given a name with the air of a knight. The two live together at the sanctuary, where the young calf can grow up beside his mother. That morning, Jolene and the herd were let out into the pasture. The calf was still small and had fallen asleep in the tall grass, so his mother could not see him. Jolene immediately became distressed. She bellowed, running all over the pasture, looking first one way and then another. The longer she could not find her calf, the more restless she became, looking so troubled that anyone watching could tell how worried she was. After searching on her own for a while, the mother cow turned to “Dad the human”, the carer who regularly looked after the herd. Long message Warning ⚠️ It is a long message but worth reading if you believe in 'Where there is a will, there is a way'. This is also a true story of struggles of life in the wild and triumph over sadness. On the evening of 3rd March in Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve near Bannari, an ailing female elephant with two of her babies including a sub-adult male elephant and a very young female baby elephant was found to be lying in a distressed condition by the Tamil Nadu foresters. The moment we got to know about this a team of expert veterinarians was pressed into service. Doctors found the ailing mother to be too weak to move and separated from her native herd. Her two babies were traumatised and started running uncontrollably in panic. The team immediately guided the young sub-adult elephant back to the herd and quickly attended to the ailing female and the baby elephant. Steps were undertaken as per the TN Forest Department SOP Guidelines for handling calf rescue situations, ensuring the calf was well hydrated, and secured in a safe, stress-free environment with minimal human intervention. With the Veterinary team coming to a conclusion that there was almost nil chance of survival of the mother elephant, efforts were initiated on 4th morning to re-unite the calf with the native herd with her sibling. We have a firm resolve to give the best chance to rewilding efforts rather than taking the easy option to make the calf a captive elephant in a camp. We swiftly organised teams from Anamalai and Mudumalai, consisting of experienced frontline staff, veterinarians, and mahouts to aid in the reunification efforts. After identifying the native herd with the help of Drones and night vision cameras at around 8 pm, the calf was brought safely onto a department vehicle and taken to the site of the same native herd. In a swift process, the calf was reunited with another elderly female of the herd, after ensuring her capability of lactating and supporting the young baby. As expected, the female and the rest of the herd took the baby elephant under their wings lovingly. The reuniting team visited the field to monitor the progress and was rewarded with a wonderful sight of the baby elephant alongside the female crossing the road with the herd at 9:30 am on the 5th morning. This is the latest among multiple successful calf relocation attempts made by the TamilNadu forest department, and the very first such effort in Sathyamangalam landscape. It throws light on the incredible fact that elephants across the landscape share a common social behaviour and a deep bond. The sincere attempt is also a testament to the exemplary efforts and hardwork of foot soldiers and officers of the TN Forest Department. Kudos to the entire team including CF Thiru Rajkumar, DD Thiru Sudhakar, FD MTR Thiru Venkatesh, FD ATR Thiru Ramasubramaniam, Dr Rajesh Kumar,Dr.Sukumar, Dr Kalaivanan, Dr Vijayaraghavan, Dr.Sadhasivam, Dr.K.Kumar, Research Scientist AIWC. Ex-orphan Zongoloni was desperate to be a mum. When Murera gave birth to the first calf of our Umani Springs herd, Mwana, in 2023, Zongoloni made a number of not so subtle — and unsuccessful — attempts to kidnap the baby. Two years on, having since witnessed herd mates Lima Lima and Sonje becomes mums, it was Zongoloni's turn! On 22nd April 2025, she gave birth to a perfect little boy, Zigi. A truly wonderful moment for Zongoloni, who as a calf experienced the trauma of her own mum being shot and fatally wounded by poachers. Thanks to donor support, we were positioned to rescue and raise Zongoloni, and today we get to enjoy seeing her living in a protected wilderness, with the next generation of her family by her side. A sperm whale mother has to leave her newborn at the surface and swim half a kilometre straight down to find food. She is gone about 40 minutes. Her calf cannot follow and cannot defend itself. So somebody else stays. Researchers off the Galapagos worked out what was happening by watching who was at the surface and when. Groups with a calf in them dived less in step with each other than groups without one. The whales were staggering their dives, so that as one went down another was already coming up, and the gap where nobody was minding the baby closed. They checked whether this was just the mothers being careful. It was not. Adults with no relation to the calf were doing it too, taking turns, one after another through the day. The calves get passed along a rota. A young sperm whale spends its day beside a series of different adults while its mother is in the dark a thousand feet below hunting squid. In the Sargasso Sea, where the groups are bigger, mothers formed proper circles and took shifts. Babysitters there let other mothers' calves nurse from them. In the smaller Caribbean groups there were not enough females for that, so a calf would be left with one close relative instead. Killer whales follow sperm whale pods specifically to pick off calves. The whale on duty at the surface is the reason that mostly fails. Then there is what happened off Dominica in July 2023, filmed by drone. A sperm whale went into labour and whales from an entirely separate family, one that had no reason to be there, arrived hours before the birth and stayed for hours after it. They lifted and supported the labouring mother and the newborn between them. Staying at the surface costs a sperm whale a great deal. One of the researchers put it plainly. It is an enormous investment in someone who is not even your kin, and by the strict rules of evolution you should not do it. Sperm whale mothers have been at this for something like 36 million years, and the answer they arrived at was other women. Nobody has improved on it since.

Groups with a calf in them dived less in step with each other than groups without one. The whales were staggering their dives, so that as one went down another was already coming up, and the gap where nobody was minding the baby closed. They checked whether this was just the mothers being careful. It was not. Adults with no relation to the calf were doing it too, taking turns, one after another through the day. The calves get passed along a rota. A young sperm whale spends its day beside a series of different adults while its mother is in the dark a thousand feet below hunting squid. In the Sargasso Sea, where the groups are bigger, mothers formed proper circles and took shifts. Babysitters there let other mothers' calves nurse from them. In the smaller Caribbean groups there were not enough females for that, so a calf would be left with one close relative instead. Killer whales follow sperm whale pods specifically to pick off calves. The whale on duty at the surface is the reason that mostly fails. Then there is what happened off Dominica in July 2023, filmed by drone. A sperm whale went into labour and whales from an entirely separate family, one that had no reason to be there, arrived hours before the birth and stayed for hours after it. They lifted and supported the labouring mother and the newborn between them. Staying at the surface costs a sperm whale a great deal. One of the researchers put it plainly. It is an enormous investment in someone who is not even your kin, and by the strict rules of evolution you should not do it. Sperm whale mothers have been at this for something like 36 million years, and the answer they arrived at was other women. Nobody has improved on it since.

In this harrowing interview she recounts the terrifying ordeal. Laura was admitted to hospital after her waters broke early at 25 weeks. Dr Vaishnavy Laxman attempted to carry out the delivery naturally and urged the patient to push whilst herself applying traction to the baby's legs. It caused the infant's legs, arms and torso to become detached, leaving the head still in his mother's womb. Two other doctors subsequently carried out a C-section on the woman to remove the infant's head. Baby Steven’s head was 're-attached' to his body so his mother could hold him before she said goodbye. It is believed the child was already dead before he was d*capitated during the botched 15 minute delivery. In 2018, a panel determined that Dr. Vaishnavy Laxman's actions did not constitute serious misconduct, allowing her to return to work.

It’s an ancient stretch of woodland on the border with Belarus, home to wolves and around 600 wild European bison. Everyone assumed she’d come back when the cold set in, or be picked off by predators. Months later, a birdwatcher named Adam Zbyryt was on a routine outing in the forest when he noticed something off in a herd of about 50 bison. One of the animals was the wrong colour. He looked through his binoculars. It was the cow. She’d joined the herd. She was eating what they ate, moving when they moved, and looked perfectly healthy. The bison expert who later confirmed the sighting put it simply: “With the bison, it’s safe from wolves.” Conservationists eventually agreed she’d have to be returned to a farm before mating season. A bison-cow hybrid calf would be too large for her to deliver safely, and would risk diluting the gene pool of an already endangered species.

Maggie Moo was separated from from her mother shortly after birth. The herd had been rounded up by the Ranchers but she was still too young to move. I remember the mother crying out trying to stay with her calf when they were being rounded up but the dogs and cowboys drove her away. Maggie Moo was probably hidden in a bush and went unnoticed. It was probably about a week later I was out in the garden and noticed the lone calf standing at the fence staring at me with despair. She had been starving without any milk for the past week and had been drinking muddy water to survive. I realised what had happened and went to approach the calf with a leash. She didn’t run and I put the leash around her neck but she was too weak to even move. I picked her up, put her over my shoulders and carried her up the hill to the house. I gave her milk, washed her, and she slept in the yard. I got in contact with the rancher and told them what had happened and for them to come and get her. They told me that I saved the calf’s life and so she belonged to me now. Long story short she survived and is full grown and healthy. She now lives her best life in a pasture with her Horse friends. A life-or-death situation, twofold: a mother elephant and her tiny calf had fallen into a well and were hopelessly stuck within its watery depths. The mum was submerged, using her trunk as a snorkel, whilst her baby struggled to keep her head above water. When our teams arrived, the exhausted calf couldn't tread water much longer. Immediate action was needed. We guided ropes around the calf and dragged her to solid ground, carrying her to shade, away from her mother's distressed calls. Meanwhile, our bowser and supplemental water pump began the slow work of filling the deep well, raising the water level so the mother could float to freedom. Hours later, when the water reached the lip, we threw ropes around the mum and used the bowser and Land Cruiser to pull in tandem and haul her out. The moment she stood on all four feet, we released her calf. They ran straight to each other, reuniting with palpable relief. We flew home to the most wonderful sight below: baby happily suckling from her mum, finally free and together. This ⬆️ epic emergency unfolded back in 2024; many more emergencies have unfolded since then. In the past week, we've rescued a calf from a well, and attended 14 veterinary treatments. Got ourselves a new calf this morning. Mama wanted nothing to do with him. No idea why. She's given us two or three calves before and been a good cow, but today she was done. So we brought him home. He took a bottle. He's been up walking around, alert, breathing good, good size. Just having a tough day with mom. We put him in the calf hutch and let him take it easy. It's hot and smoky out anyway. We'll try taking him back up tomorrow, see if she changes her mind. But if not, we'll bottle him through like we do the others. 68 more to go this week.
