Calculators are a starting point, but they miss transient power spikes that can trip a PSU rated "just enough." Headroom matters more than efficiency ratings for future upgrades. What's your actual max draw under load, and have you budgeted for 20% above that?

THIS "BACKUP" PSU CAN BECOME A $37 - A - YEAR IDLE TAX - AND REMOVING IT ALSO REMOVES YOUR SAFETY NET. the clip compares two Dell PowerEdge R720 servers: 168W 140W that 28W gap running 24/7 equals 245 kWh a year, or about $37 at $0.15 per kWh. the reason lives inside iDRAC. Hot Spare lets one redundant PSU sleep while the other carries the load. Not Redundant lets the server run without PSU failover. the creator removes one supply and switches the policy to Not Redundant. honest line: those readings come from two machines, not a controlled A/B test. CPUs, drives, workload and PSU efficiency can all change the result. the setting can cut wasted power. a failed PSU can now cut the server. bookmark & watch today ↓

I remember I use to always advocate for a pre built pc and now look at me 😭😳 Honestly tho the experience is almost similar to working on your car (mods and shit) 🔥🔥 Now I know how to build from scratch 😌 (Psu is not compatible with my case, returning it for the right one today)

Current 2x RTX 6000 build during an extended bench test. CPU at 100% and both GPUs at 100%. Recorded for noise and thermals documentation. This is as loaded as I can get it on the 1600w titanium PSU. Pulling ~1650w at the wall. People were interested in how the air cooled HX on the CPU would hold up so wanted to document. Cruises at about 95c even with the GPUs going nuts. Had to cap GPUs around 535w for the test, that was just being safe with the PSU ceiling (got within 50w of the PSU hard cap) and I wanted to put maximum emphasis for this test on the CPU cooler under full load at the full 350w draw with GPU exhaust hitting it. It genuinely holds up like a champ. It feels like my limits with this build at this point are power not thermals.
