It happens to everyone I talk to as well. We have a solution for this now. The team Augment Code released a "Task List" feature for their coding assistant that solves this problem. Augment Code is partnering with me on this post. In case you haven't used them before: • Augment Code is a fully-fledged coding assistant • Their specialty are large projects • Fastest coding indexing I've seen • Has a free forever community edition Now, you can ask their coding agent to generate a Task List before doing anything. This will give you a plan you can review, edit, and augment if you need to. You can export this plan, load it on a different session, or even share it across projects. It makes a huge difference: The task list constrains the agent so you won't get any "unintended" changes anymore. It also puts you in control of everything the agent does. Nothing beats Augment Code answering questions about large codebases. It's a free extension (works in VSCode, JetBrains, and NeoVim), and has a community edition you can run for free forever. Try this experiment: 1. Download any large open-source project from GitHub 2. Augment will index the code 3. Start asking questions about the codebase 4. Do the same using any other coding agent 5. Compare the speed and the depth of the answers you get If you have a small codebase, the differences with other coding agents won't be obvious, but if you are working on a large project, things will click immediately. Suggestion: download the Keras repository (~180,000 lines of code). I know the library well, and the answers I got from Augment were pretty impressive. By the way, Augment is a fully-fledged AI coding assistant. You can use its agent in every imaginable way: • To implement brand new functionality • To make quick edits to your code • To refactor existing functionality • To generate unit tests • To generate documentation • To handle GitHub—pull requests, commits, branching, etc My favorite feature is their "Next Edit" functionality: 1. There's a new AI-native IDE out there named Aide, and there are four things I like about it: 1. It's open-source 2. It's proactive and suggests changes before you ask 3. It uses an intermediate layer between the editor and LLM 4. It's SOTA on the SWE-Bench benchmark I'm excited about #3 because this layer (called "Sidecar") will help people connect any model to the IDE. While this isn't possible right now, it's clearly the goal. Sidecar is also open-source. As I write this, the code agent behind Aide, "CodeStory Midwit Agent," is second in the Verified SWE-Bench leaderboard (it finished in 2024 in the first place.) This is a huge deal! If I'm gonna have an agent help me code, it might as well be the best of the best. The proactive aspect is also cool: the IDE provides suggestions to improve your code without you having to ask. I recorded a quick video showing you how Aide works. The team behind the IDE partnered with me on this video. Right now, it feels like *everyone* is building AI-powered coding tools. As a career developer, nothing excites me more than seeing how quickly we transform the development experience. And 2025 is just getting started!

With all the buzz around the Codex App, OpenAI Developers quietly snuck out a new CLI update (0.94.0) as well. And boy is it an important update! Codex Plan mode is now officially released to the general audience! I am very excited about this one as it has a really strong prompt that is unlike any other plan mode I've personally used. Codex Plan mode doesn't necessarily just ask you 3 questions up front. It goes, collects context, asks questions, collects more context, asks more questions (sometimes), and then writes an incredibly high quality plan. It is my favorite implementation of plan mode thus far. It also comes with Codex's own version of "AskUserQuestion!" Although, it only works in Plan mode for now. They really need to allow people to use it in Code mode as well, but one win at a time. npm i -g @openai/codex Below is a demo of how it works. Let me know what you think!

An LLM with native access to find and run agents is a huge thing! This large language model (called ASI:One and developed by Fetch.ai) can do this natively when you show it a problem: • Reason about the problem • Identify live agents and tools that can help solve it • Dynamically invoke these agents and tools Honestly, this is pretty nuts! You don't need to set up anything beforehand. You don't need to write any code. Here is the best part: ASI:One has access to any agent published on Agentverse, an open directory of agents! This gives the model access to *millions* of tools it can execute dynamically when solving a task. Here is a simple example (the one in the attached video): • I went to Google Maps • I copied the latitude and longitude of a location • I asked ASI:One about relevant places around that location • ASI:One went to the marketplace • It identified and called the Google Places agent • It returned a list of museums, restaurants, and landmarks near my location Pretty awesome! You can try this now by going to You don't need to pay or register to test it out. If you want to get ideas of what's possible, check Agentverse, the agent marketplace: The model will have access to all of those tools. Anyone got any idea how to enable /fast mode on Claude Code It won't do anything, sometimes it finally shows me a login thing after /enable-usage but then I login and I copy the code and I am back here with no fast mode! It did work on my laptop but not on server :/
