It’s been a great day of progress for Lady given where she started… First the bad stuff… 🚑 Vet visit found she has 2 types of blood parasites with a third starting. 🩸 She has serious anemia 🦴 Her hip was broken in an injury some time ago and not treated Now the good stuff… ✅ Lady has full feeling throughout body including tail. It’s nothing spinal 🐜 She is now totally flea and tick free 🧼 She got her 2nd bath and the water is running clear. She smells great ✂️ We finished her grooming. I made a small mistake on her head with a buzz cut but she forgave me. 🥱 Lady is eating, sleeping, drinking and doing toilets great. 💊 She has started a full course of medicines to build up her strength. I don’t have more answers than that right now. All I can do is work through some steps to make her better with treatment. The improvement in 30 hours has been superb. Lady is about 10-11 years old and had been in agony for months if not longer. We’ll take it one day at a time and hope tomorrow is as good for her as today was. Lady is the best girl ever. She deserves it all 🥰🙏

We’ve seen a lot of dogs in bad conditions but I think this lovely boy might be the worst pain I’ve ever seen a dog in. We’d been told about him by a kind man in the community who found him but had no idea how to help beyond giving him water, food and putting a little electric fan on him. He eventually got through to us in sheer desperation. The dog has been there for days apparently and probably hit by some sort of major trauma. He hasn’t eaten or drank his water and he was laying in his own pee and poop. That little alley way was where it was all going to end very soon because I could see from his gums and other signs he was in big big trouble. We had to just go for it and make a stretcher with what we had and push through the pain. It took us 40 minutes to get back to Tina’s hospital and he screamed at every tiny bump on the road. I thought his spine was broken and was super relieved when it wasn’t. I thought he might be so bad that we’d never be posting this video as it might be better to put him out of his misery. He is very sick and has some stuff going on internally but it is pelvis related we believe. He is by no means 100% going to make it as he has so much going on inside him but we have some hope now. The team are in full action mode to try and save him. I called him Bear as he is a big fluffy gentle giant I can tell. I’m not sure how this story ends but it’s already better than he was alone in that alley this morning. He’s having a huge sleep now with lots of pain relief and meds. 🤞🤞🤞

DIGITAL TWIN UPDATE: The Unreal Engine digital twin project is CANCELLED! WE ARE OPEN SOURCING THE WORK!!!!!!! Instead, I'm building an end-to-end land management platform I'm calling Mazzap because it's an app and it's a map and also I'm Mr. Mazza. I'm also not calling a digital twin anymore; I'm calling it a V.E.I.L. which stands for Virtually Embodied Intelligent Land which serves the dual purpose of sounding way cooler and also conveys the long-term aims of the prject way better. With Mazzap anyone can easily generate a veil with nothing but publicly available data (and some photogrammetry objects if you so choose). Everything is perfectly georefrenced and you can right-click anywhere on your veil to get coordinates you can plug into google maps yourself. The next step for this is going to be building a survey companion mobile app so you can get field data yourself complete with attribute tables to drop in to get even HIGHER fidelity data than USGS. My stretch goal is using something like SAM 3D (but better) to generate georefrenced 3d tree assets based on the real trees on your land (which will eventually lead to growth and fruiting simulators based on your soil and hydrology data). Then again maybe that's not the next step; maybe the next step is plumbing in IoT devices so you can view assets in real time on your land. GPS trackers on the sheep, or maybe data from your solar controller. DIGITAL TWIN UPDATE: The Unreal Engine digital twin project is CANCELLED! WE ARE OPEN SOURCING THE WORK!!!!!!! Instead, I'm building an end-to-end land management platform I'm calling Mazzap because it's an app and it's a map and also I'm Mr. Mazza. I'm also not calling a digital twin anymore; I'm calling it a V.E.I.L. which stands for Virtually Embodied Intelligent Land which serves the dual purpose of sounding way cooler and also conveys the long-term aims of the prject way better. With Mazzap anyone can easily generate a veil with nothing but publicly available data (and some photogrammetry objects if you so choose). Everything is perfectly georefrenced and you can right-click anywhere on your veil to get coordinates you can plug into google maps yourself. The next step for this is going to be building a survey companion mobile app so you can get field data yourself complete with attribute tables to drop in to get even HIGHER fidelity data than USGS. My stretch goal is using something like SAM 3D (but better) to generate georefrenced 3d tree assets based on the real trees on your land (which will eventually lead to growth and fruiting simulators based on your soil and hydrology data). Then again maybe that's not the next step; maybe the next step is plumbing in IoT devices so you can view assets in real time on your land. GPS trackers on the sheep, or maybe data from your solar controller. Here's the second beat I made on the Akai MPC Sample. Let me know what you think below. I've realized that this machine has forced me to get straight to the point and not procrastinate. I've realized that using a program like Ableton (where there is infinite hard drive space and capability), I often sample things with no intention of using them until later. And while having a hard drive full of samples feels good--nothing feels better than making a beat with a sample that you just found right there on the spot. I'm getting back to that now. So I've decided to keep the MPC Sample in my bedroom, on the desk that's right next to my bed. This is how I was making music from 1999-2005, but over the years I had forgotten how much of a difference it makes to keep your tools close to you. I'm still learning how to freak this machine, but will keep y'all posted on my progress with it. Thinking of putting some beatmaking videos on youtube. Would any of y'all be interested? I'm sitting here waiting to go into work. I work 40 hours a week. I make $15 an hour, which is better than a lot of other places that I've worked or applied for. And I can't afford anything. I have nothing left over after I pay for rent and my bills and I don't even have a car payment. I don't pay for my phone. My parents still take care of that for me, thank goodness. I'm glad I have parents that still support me in some way. But yeah, so it's like I can't even pay for groceries and what am I supposed to do? I don't want to go into work because I'm not making. I'm not making any money. And what is the point? What is the point? So genuinely, what should I do? Because I don't know how much longer I can do this.”

An excerpt from my new book 'Breaking Point': " On December 30, both of us realised just how traumatised we were when we visited Labadi Beach to hang out. We spotted a lady selling jollof rice, and we decided to get some jollof and chicken. The lady had a little daughter who couldn’t have been more than 4 years old. While waiting for our food a little distance away from them, we spotted 2 Ghanaian policemen walking up the beach toward us, dressed in black and holding AK-47s, just like their Nigerian counterparts. Ralph and I beckoned at the little girl who was playing near us, telling her to see who was coming. Instinctively, we felt a need to warn the innocent little soul that danger was coming, and she should run to her mom for protection. Instead, the little girl looked up, saw the policemen, and skipped joyfully toward them, utterly unafraid and screeching in delight with her full set of milk teeth showing, “Police! Police! Police!” The policemen on their part calmly acknowledged her, returned her smile, and even stopped to play with her for a few moments before continuing on their way. Not a single word was said at that moment, but when Ralph and I looked at each other with our mouths open in utter amazement, nothing needed to be said. It turned out that being mortally terrified of police to the point of using them to scare young children was a uniquely Nigerian experience - one that we were both completely, hopelessly, and maybe permanently marinated in. For everyone else, there was no such conditioning. Apparently, it wasn’t that the world outside was that much better than Nigeria. But it was that much less terrible.
