James Dyson was inspired to create a bagless vacuum after observing how cyclone force was used in sawmills to eject sawdust. It’s one of my favourite examples of a “cross industry innovation”. I wrote about it and 10 more examples here:

I’m not sure the point of a Dyson vacuum? It voids carpet warranty’s so if you own one and file a claim make sure you hide it. Because if it’s seen in your home the adjuster will call it out and it’s over. Also who needs this much suction on wood or tile floors. Nobody. So it’s an overpriced warranty voiding machine.
