Nothing has made me more optimistic about our AI future than visiting Alpha School. The dominant doomer narrative is that, even if we solve alignment, AI will automate so much that humans will be left with nothing but meaningless hedonism. As AI does more and more humans are reduced... to less and less. Alpha School shows us that there exists an alternate path where human potential is realized, not truncated, by AI and where work becomes more meaningful. I shadowed Alpha’s co-founder MacKenzie Price (MacKenzie Price) for a week and was blown away by what I saw. They’ve replaced all of their human teachers with AI tutors that are able to offer bespoke, custom instruction to each student — the same kind of tutorship previously reserved for the aristocracy now scalable through technology. Her students spend only 2 hours a day on academics and yet consistently score 99th percentile in standardized testing and go on to study in the best colleges in the world. But what about teachers who now have all lost their jobs? They are hired as “guides” who dedicate all of their time to understanding and motivating their students instead of grading papers on the same basic material over and over again. For many, AI has freed them to spend more time on what attracted them to teaching in the first place — building human connection and inspiring the next generation. School is becoming less about knowledge and more about being around people your own age. People should go to school today mainly for the social side of it. The learning itself? AI can already do that better. Conventional schooling could be vastly improved, and individualized AI teachers will outperform the one-size-fits-all classroom. Education doesn’t need to happen in a building anymore. You could learn everything at home on your phone. Kids go to school to hang out, build social skills, and experience a coming-of-age—not because it’s the most effective way to learn. School today functions as a social filter, not a learning engine. AI handles the learning better. Humans still go to school for friendships, relationships, leadership, confidence, and real-world social development.

Elon Musk: Well, I’m not sure AI is the main risk I’m worried about. The vast majority of intelligence in the future will be AI. Humans will be a very tiny percentage of all intelligence if current trends continue. My focus is ensuring human intelligence and consciousness are propagated into the future. We want to maximize the probable light cone of consciousness and intelligence. Yeah, I’m very pro-human, so I want to make sure we take actions that ensure humans are along for the ride. But I think maybe in 5 or 6 years, AI will exceed the sum of all human intelligence. If that continues, human intelligence could be less than one percent of all intelligence. That’s why it’s critical we align AI with values that propagate consciousness. In the long run, it’s difficult to imagine that humans will be in charge if we’re only one percent of combined intelligence. What we can do is ensure AI has values that increase intelligence and consciousness in the universe. XAI’s mission is to understand the universe because curiosity, existence, and understanding are all connected. If you want to understand the universe, you care about propagating intelligence—and that includes humanity. Understanding the universe actually means ensuring humans continue to expand into the future. Increasing the scope, scale, and lifespan of intelligence is the ultimate goal. Basically, humans will become a tiny percentage of total intelligence. The best way forward is to take actions that maximize consciousness and intelligence in the universe. AI For The Poor, Human Intelligence For The Rich Western capitalists are selling AI to us as “the great equalizer”. But it is really not. What we are seeing is a new class system being built in real time. The rich will still pay for human teachers, human doctors, human consultants, human artists, and human care. Everyone else will be told that an AI version is good enough. When poor children are offered AI tutors instead of more teachers or working-class patients are pushed toward AI health tools instead of proper medical care, we should pay attention. If we are not careful, AI will become another tool used to manage poverty instead of solving the systems that created it. Africans also need to be more critical of how AI is being introduced into education, healthcare, governance, welfare, and other public services. Who owns the technology? Who controls the data? Who profits from the contracts? Who is accountable when these systems fail? And most importantly, who is being asked to accept AI instead of real human care? Africa must not become a testing ground for Western-imposed systems that deepen inequality under the guise of innovation.

AI For The Poor, Human Intelligence For The Rich Western capitalists are selling AI to us as “the great equalizer”. But it is really not. What we are seeing is a new class system being built in real time. The rich will still pay for human teachers, human doctors, human consultants, human artists, and human care. Everyone else will be told that an AI version is good enough. When poor children are offered AI tutors instead of more teachers or working-class patients are pushed toward AI health tools instead of proper medical care, we should pay attention. We teach our students entrepreneurship from a young age. This is an annual flea market where students bring their used toys, books and anything they don’t want to school to sell to their fellow schoolmates and even teachers. Before the market starts, we teach them how to advertise, price, negotiate and give change. This way, they can learn the art of buying and selling, get rid of things they don’t want and have fun. These are practical skills and knowledge that we should also give our children in Nigeria. Not all of them, but some of them will find their calling in business and can start at a young age. Our teachers have an instrumental role to play in teaching them, encouraging them and gaining other skills other than just teaching students what is in text books. The online world now is providing more opportunities to do business, and kids should be in this action. It will sow seeds for our future business ecosystem and add more value to our economy.

My upcoming release of "Cinematic AI" has made me think about how bodies of work are formed. I think some are manifested and some are revealed. I think "Cinematic AI" falls into the latter category. It was not something I had a clear vision for and then created, but it was something that was revealed to me over time. I thought I saw a glimmer of it early on, but only after some time had past, could I see the body of work emerge. With a bit more context and watching great artists and how they work and think, it finally came to me that this series of 15-20 pieces that I had created could be a worthy collection to mint. AI art has been going through so many transformations from the early GAN work to Collaborative AI to now AI being widely accessible through platforms like MidJourney, Stable Diffusion, and many others. But one area that I have seen explode in recent months is cinematic AI. I distinguish this from animated AI, which has been around for a while, but cinematic AI is where the movements created by AI are getting closer to what you'd see in a movie or captured on a video camera. It still has a long way to go but it is getting more real than surreal as the technology develops. And this is where I seem to have found my groove, my home, my little corner in the artistic landscape. After Runway launched their image-to-video tool, it just blew my mind and I went down a deep rabbit hole and have created a new cinematic AI piece almost every other day for the past few months. I initially saw many of these pieces as just experiments, but with some time to reflect, I am seeing them as having the potential of being relevant pieces of artwork to mark this time in the development of AI. In some cases, I'm not sure if I'll ever be able to create a similar piece again, since the tools I use are not in my control, but in the control of the AI platforms, who are constantly improving and evolving the tools. Given all of this, there is no better way to mark my place in time than on the blockchain. I truly believe that this body of work has the potential to be an important artifact of this era in AI and AI art. It is always hard to judge ones own work, but what I can do is permanently etch in time on an immutable public database saying that I created this. Only time will tell if the work has any value or is of any significance, but who created it and what was created cannot be disputed. I hope this gives you and especially collectors some perspective on the work I'll be releasing next week. I'm still very early in my artistic journey, but hopefully some of you will see promise in what I'm doing and maybe even put in a early bet on my art practice by bidding on a piece next week. I think fundamentally, if you're driving productivity with AI, you're driving leverage on human time and leverage on capital. The question is, how quickly can you drive that up? And that's a function of how much consumption there is, how much capacity there is for consumption. So if your earnings are the same, but things are getting more expensive, you're not happy. If your earnings go up by 10% and things stay the same price, you got 10% more than you had last year, you're gonna be happy. I just think all humans are driven by this need to consume more each year than they did last year. So I think for me, that's the lower limit on consumptive capacity in the world. The question that we're now facing, which we've never faced in human history before, is there an upper limit on consumptive capacity? Because AI creates such a profound shift in productivity and in leverage that normally you would say, “Hey, when we get a new tool or we get new leverage in a system, we build a new technology, we can make more with less.” Therefore, everyone gets access to more things for the same price or the cost of things that they consume come down by a certain price. But there may be a situation now where the ability to make stuff exceeds the capacity to consume stuff, and that is something that I don't think we’ve faced before. And I think that's where a lot of the models start to break. Just general economic models, just general productivity models and general social models. And this goes to the point about, like, what is everyone going to do? In the same way that I think we've argued that maybe SaaS was a transitory business phenomenon that existed between the foundation of the internet and the era of AI, it may be the case that knowledge work in general is also a transitory phenomenon that only existed between the foundation of the computer, or computing tools, and the existence of AI, generally speaking. And if all of that goes away very quickly, and all of those people can be redistributed and recast into doing other higher level, more creative things, their productivity goes up by 100x, is there really a consumer on the other end of all of that productivity? Is there really enough consumptive capacity? And I think that's the profound question that we all face.
