All Thai males are subject to mandatory military conscription starting at the age of 21. A lottery is held each year where the men are told if they must serve or not. If they pull a red card, they are required to serve for about two years. If they pull a black card, they're exempt from service. This was the reaction when one individual found out they would not be serving in the military.
