Data-center power costs are clearly becoming a major policy issue. The real debate is whether states should have flexibility or whether federal law should require data centers to directly cover the grid upgrades they create.

Why make Data Centers the "boogie man". We need to keep the high tech advantage. Also there are thousands of Data Centers in VA. Do the people there still have power and energy? I dont remember hearing about a mass exodus from VA due to any negative implications of Data Centers.

They must furnish their own electric rather than being a burden to the local peoples. But they have also found tainted water in runoff from, I think it was the one near Laramie. They must furnish and cleanse their own water.

@Felix1343599 Why have federal legislation? Electric rates are determined by state utility commissions. Each state can set up a rate that requires data centers to bear the full cost of service.
