We have just returned from the Mission area. That is how we were able to move ahead in the Mission. This project is an indication of the actions which we have done because when we went into the Mission area, we realised that women soldiers are also required to be conducting patrols along with the male soldiers because it is very necessary...When we engaged with the community, initially they (women and children) had a little hesitation to speak to us. But once we started speaking to them continuously, we were able to get a good response from them; they were able to share their issues. This is what helped us in identifying that women's and men participation are equally important in peacekeeping operations. That is how we were able to conceptualise this project...We started conducting certain awareness camps against conflict-related sexual violence, we started sharing protection contact cards where we were able to share our contacts or emergency contacts and also identify certain areas or regions where we should be conducting more patrols. Because of the presence of UN in these regions, they were able to feel more confident and free in their movement..."
