A dozen students in a construction class at Warner High School have completed a 3-bedroom, 2-bath home, which is now for sale. The school district is accepting sealed bids for the home at 1003 E 5th Avenue in Warner, with a minimum bid of $210,000. The bids will be opened on May 15th. Teacher Ira Jackson returned to the classroom after retiring to teach the hands-on work. “The goal of the program is to produce students who can read a tape measure and understand the basics of carpentry and building, and move on from there,” he said. Several students already have job offers after working alongside licensed trades workers during construction. Ethan Atkerson, a Warner High School senior, said he helped with cabinetry, guttering and lighting, and is certain he’ll pursue a career in construction. “I’ve loved doing every part of this,: he said. “It’s all been enjoyable to me. I like being able to work with my hands, and this is something that I can work with my hands and look at the work and think, I did that, I’m proud of that.” Every high school in America should be doing this!

NEW: Missouri high school student beats up her elderly teacher and then has a seizure while in police handcuffs. Our school system is a mess. The incident allegedly happened after the student left class and later returned to grab their backpack. 65-year old Sheryl Rogers told the student to wait which prompted the student to grab the backpack and assault her. Students claim Rogers became suspicious that the student was grabbing medication from her locker. The pills were allegedly anti-seizure pills. Law students can borrow up to $200,000, but Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists — the critical professionals who put patients under anesthesia — are capped at just $100,000 for their graduate degrees. These nurses earn more on average than most attorneys, yet the rules treat them worse. This doesn’t make sense. We’re going to work on fixing this and getting the rules right for the professionals America actually needs.

Pauls Valley High School Principal Kirk Moore is being called a hero after getting shot while stopping a school shooter. The suspect, identified as 20-year-old Victor Hawkins, was a former student who said he wanted to shoot up the school “like the Columbine shooters did.” While taking down the shooter, Moore was shot in the leg. He is expected to recover and says he is looking forward to returning to work as soon as possible. This still doesn't solve the pacing problem or the fact that kids aren't uniformly advanced. A kid can be flying in math and behind in reading at the same time. At Alpha, a fifth grader doing geometry sits right next to a friend who's catching up on fourth-grade math. Same room, same age, no one pulled out, no one held back. They're just each working on what they actually need.
