Agree, and in the suffering and pain you grow and evolve. You learn how to be intuitive on top of that, and when you get to a point when things seem too easy, pivot! I will say that I have met leaders who have seriously faced a lot of pain. Some have even been homeless on the streets, and you would never tell by their success. It’s a shame that once we hit a career peak, we hide the pain and suffering to “fit in”. Hearing someone’s story can build character too! True resilience is the ability to withstand pain and suffering in the face of adversity!

Well said. With very high expectations we also tend to prefer short term over long term benefits and that kills the business over time

He is neither right or wrong. The answer is situational. US Special Forces communities have both high expectations and high resilience. This is because resilience is an attribute and cannot be taught, so they assess for it on the front end. This doesn’t happen in most orgs.

Very interesting. I completely agree with this and struggled a lot with this exact problem coming out of undergrad/grad school. You really have to learn to cope with things going poorly and how to work hard / move forward in the face of hardship.
