NWS did an exceptional job forecasting an extremely difficult flooding situation in TX the other night.. Anyone blaming them is just blatantly ignorant of the chain of events. @NWSWPC @NWSSanAntonio I'm saying the cuts to NWS suck and I don't support them but they didn't specifically affect NWS performance during this event. They will affect future research on these types of events though and that is really shitty

@NWSWPC @NWSSanAntonio I think a big takeaway from this situation is that the official Austin NWS forecasts leading up to this event trended from a dry pattern to a wetter pattern. However, there was never a mention of excessive, life-threatening flash flood verbiage within these area discussions.

@NWSWPC @NWSSanAntonio This was problematic because camp directors, organizers, and visitors initially based their plans on the drier forecast before it trended wetter by Tuesday. But there were still no PDS Flood Watches or life-threatening messages conveyed to the public leading up to Thursday.

@NWSWPC @NWSSanAntonio Thus, campers were never under the impression that there was an elevated threat of life-threatening flash-flooding before going to bed on Thursday evening. Yes, the warnings may have been timely, but the initial forecasts leading up to Thursday failed to warn them accordingly.
