There are going to be a lot more services layoffs like Verizon. ISM told us that with their backlogs index hitting 2009 lows in two of the last three months. It's one thing if you don’t have enough new sales coming in. You can work down the existing business, the backlogs to keep your workforce busy in the meantime until sales pick back up. No need to lay people off, just keep production and work volumes up for the time being. Companies tried to maintain their payrolls, but you can see from the ISM data all that did was accelerate the decline in backlogs right on into job cutting. It’s now the biggest stretch of weakness for services employment since 2020. And you can see how what we have right now in it is roughly equal to the first half of 2008. Or very nearly the same as the first half of 2001’s dot-com recession.

My question is that, what is the plan of the Government led by you for the Upliftment of the Bengali speaking Muslims? Because sir, if Assam has to go to the top level or reach the top 5 states that you have always dreamt of, these chunk of population can't be ignored Sir, We have to improve the overall Indicators. HBS : First of all, I believe BJP Assam Pradesh government is in the best position to trigger the Welfare activity among the Bengali Muslims. We give clear statement that look as of now we don't want your votes. We are not here to do Politics. We come here to give you Education, Health, We come here to make you part of Financial Inclusion, we want to take your all indicators to the same level as that of the Assamese speaking Muslims or Hindus. Our efforts are paying Dividends. Muslim boys, girls are taking Education seriously, not getting married early. Even I believe the #UCC will be a welcoming step in that direction. I think some of the Bengali speaking Muslim male particularly the political class has to change their approach. They shouldn't nurture a constituency thinking that if the Muslim population goes high, they can remain MLA forever. At the cost of the poverty of your fellow citizens, you shouldn't try to become Minister & MLA. That is our difference with Maulana Badruddin Ajmal. I think the time has come where Bengali speaking Muslims come out openly and say that we want Education, Health, good roads & we are here to definitely respond to all those demands. We will definitely help them. But look you can't exploit woman, you marry the woman at the time when they are actually ready for marriage, don't compromise their academics. If they are studying, let them complete graduation. My loud & clear message is that the Bengali speaking Muslims should cooperate with this government. I think they should completely capitalize on the goodwill of the BJP government. Today my women college initiative, lot of financial inclusion scheme. PM Narendra Modi's all biggest initiatives are going to the Bengali speaking Muslims more because of their Poverty. #SabkaSathSabkaVikas is displayed in real sense of term I mean you have seen the government employees, everywhere there's no discrimination at all. I think real Secularism is practised in Assam.

Went to a new kind of movie today. One that cost $400,000 in AI compute to make. It was the San Francisco premiere. If you hadn’t told me it was largely done with AI I wouldn’t have known. The takeaway after listening to Higgsfield AI 🧩’s CTO introduce it is that a competent movie can now be made for half a million dollars. Where they used to cost $100 million or more. Here is the first few minutes of “Hell Grind” and that intro from Yerzat Dulat. We are far from seeing the ultimate use of AI in movies. As a touch point of where AI for creative people is this seems like an important time marker and one I will look back on frequently for years.

From International Space Station, we have a unique vantage point to observe lightning storms from directly above them. Much like from the ground, they appear as rapid, intense flashes that are over as quickly as they started. But, with the help of handheld cameras and a bit of practice (and, admittedly, some luck), we can capture these intense flashes with a very high frame rate then slow them down to see how the lightning propagates. It's lightning, in slow motion. This is one that occurred over Indonesia on 6/28. I shot it for a half second at 1/120 frame rate, so, 60 separate frames. I then compiled those frames into two videos: the first, in real-time, and the second, slowed down so that each frame is a half second to highlight the progression of the flash. Note the incredible burst of light in one frame, which includes what is likely a TLE on the upper left. A TLE, or Transient Luminous Event, is an electrical discharge that happens in the upper atmosphere above lightning storms (if you haven’t seen Ferry Farhan TLE photo from last week, head over to her page). As their name implies, these are transient, or short lived, phenomena – it appeared in only one frame of the sequence, lasting for no more than 1/120th of a second. The last photo is that single frame. Absolutely incredible.

I remember during my time at Cheptenye Boys, when we break for holidays or half-term, my first stopover would be at Meralis restaurant to eat chips masala and soda Madiaba. All of the fraud that Elon Musk and DOGE exposed, the Republican Congress put it on the back burner and refused to f*cking vote on it. Turned around to the American voter that put them in power and extended one of these. It doesn't matter what we do this situation is completely freaking unstable, totally and completely unsustainable. It's a waste of time to vote, and it's a waste of energy to pay taxes so that we can give it to people that are going to steal from us. And then we can send it to other countries that hate us, and we can send it to people in the European Union that look down their nose at the American worker and say, good little, go back to work. It's putting us in a helpless situation. And I don't think the people in Washington living in that bubble realize the anger that is fuming outside of the borders of that city. And I am not interested in watching another theatrical Congressional hearing where a couple of ballsy Republicans out a corrupt leftist and then nothing happens. Accountability and a f*cking tax strike is what needs to happen”

SUMMER SALAD IDEA: Mediterranean Chicken, Pistachio, & Herb Salad If you love mediterranean recipes and mediterranean food, and you want an amazing summer salad that hits all the right notes, then try making this easy salad at home. Its got one of the best flavor combinations, its so easy to make, and SO good. I love pulsing cauliflower into snowflakes here, it adds such a nice texture, and it’s almost like having couscous in the salad. Here is how I made it: 1.Lets prep the chicken first and let it marinade. Add 1lb of chicken thighs to a bowl. Drizzle with 1 tsp olive oil. Season with salt, pepper. Add the zest and juice of a small lemon, 2 tbsp tomato paste, 1 tbsp oregano, 1/2 tbsp garlic powder, and 1/2 tbsp harissa spice or paprika. Mix really well. Ideally let this marinate for 1-2 hours, or you can also just pop it into the oven at 400F for 30 mins, or your airfryer at 400F for 20 minutes. 2.Prep your salad base. I finely chopped 5oz arugula and added to a salad bowl. I also pulsed the florets from half a head of cauliflower in a high powered blender or food processor until they have a super fine consistency. Add those to the bowl with 4 thinly sliced Persian cucumbers, 1/2 large red onion finely diced, 3-4 scallions thinly sliced, half a pint of cherry tomato. You can add as many fresh herbs you want here. At a minimum I recommend finely chopping a large handful of fresh parsley (yielding about 3/4 cup), but feel free to add fresh mint and cilantro to this as well. 3.Dice up the cooked chicken and add it to the salad bowl, along side 1/4 to 1/3 cup of toasted pistachios. If you dont like pistachios, you can always swap it in for pecans or walnuts. 4.For the dressing, in a jar add 1/4 cup olive oil, the juice and zest of a large lemon, 2 tbsp tomato paste, 2 tbsp red wine vinegar, 1 tbsp dijon mustard, salt, pepper, 2 tsp oregano, 1 tsp onion powder, and a pinch of aleppo pepper flakes. All this talk about AGI destroying moats and everything made me want to ship again One of the conclusions from all of you was, if you can use AI to ship faster and better, you should just ship way more complex things, like things you could not imagine making before For me personally I'd never imagine making Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Pro or Capcut but on the web, it'd simply be too difficult for me, where do I even start? So today I just tried and vibecoded them into Photo AI! A fully functional video editor but the cool twist is this one can actually generate videos with you or your trained models in it directly in your video editor I'm personally less interested in the AI influencers etc, but more fun to make actual kinda cinematic short films with yourself and other people in it, so I made this Likeness in video models is now good enough so that gives lots of cool opportunities, but most AI platforms just let you generate 10 second clips but then you're stuck with that and have to put it together yourself in Final Cut Pro So now you can just [ Send to video editor ] inside Photo AI and you end up here And the next thing I'll add is the AI Agent sidebar I have in Photo AI's main app too, which lets an agent take control of the interface. In this case you'll be able to say "make a short film of me in Bangkok", it'll ask you some questions, then write a script of prompts, which are then generated as videos with you or other people as the actors in it and automatically edited into a short film on your time Then you can right click on any video you don't like (some videos just suck or have bad resemblance to you, shit happens), and click [ Regenerate], adjust the prompt a bit and the new video will show up in the same place on your video timeline In this case I did try to make a short film of me arriving in Bangkok as a digital nomad the first time and being dazed, lost and disillusioned as I am on the other side of the world 🤯 Featuring Lorn's song "The Slow Blade"

7 Reasons I Love Full Hex Squats! 1. Step-ups and split-squats on some sort of podium have already been go-tos for me for the past 15 years of knee rehab and coaching, and anyone can access these for free or dirt cheap. 2. Not everyone wants to jump into barbell squats. My parents maintain bodyweight. I advise young athletes to master one leg at a time first. Both user-friendly from this. 3. Sophomore year of high school I injured my neck from being pushed into heavy barbell squats. Full hex squat allows you to build some upper back first. 4. My best friend in high school broke his back while maxing out barbell squats. Spent the next year in a metal brace. When your legs can’t handle a full hex squat, you’re in a DEADLIFT, not a GOODMORNING. Deadlift has way easier leverage, so you’re way safer. 5. Hex squat isn’t as good for lower back building, but for me, my parents, and my teenage students, back extension is already my go-to to build lower back muscles at higher reps BEFORE worrying about max loads. (To be clear: 1-5 above are amazing PREP/HELPERS for barbell squats if you so desire!) 6. If a young person does want to see their peak strength, a regular hex deadlift is a very safe and accurate option. 7. The same hex is advantageous for forward and backward farmer’s walks to help your ankles and grip keep up with your new power! (These podiums won’t be good biz since they’re made in USA, small batches, but these are easy to mimic or copy. ETA 6 weeks to first batch for sale, for those interested.)
