Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is characterized by repetitive partial or complete upper airway collapse during sleep, leading to intermittent hypoxia, fragmented sleep architecture, and significant sympathetic nervous system activation. While loud snoring and daytime fatigue are hallmark symptoms, lesser-known consequences include impaired glymphatic clearance in the brain - affecting waste removal during sleep - and an increased risk of developing atrial fibrillation, insulin resistance, and even treatment-resistant hypertension. Interestingly, OSA can also alter hormone regulation, including leptin and ghrelin, disrupting appetite control and contributing to weight gain, which in turn worsens apnea - a vicious cycle. In some patients, especially those with "REM-related OSA", events cluster during REM sleep when muscle tone is at its lowest, making diagnosis more challenging without full-night polysomnography. Also, certain craniofacial structures, like a recessed jaw or high-arched palate, can predispose non-obese individuals to OSA, highlighting that it’s not solely a disease of excess weight.

No, you have it ALL backwards. The body has ADAPTED by restricting oxygen. Why? Because our mitochondria are overwhelmed with ROS... Excess ROS leads to...cancer. That's right. So, however strange it may sound, oxygen becomes toxic in this scenario. So, better fix underlying issues first. Look UPSTREAM sonny boy... Why are patients with CPAP more prone to cancer? Ever asked that question?
