Ocean Cleanup project completed its first successful trip.

The system is designed to trap plastic without harming marine life. It's engineered to float on the surface while collecting plastic that is suspended in the water. The Ocean Cleanup project aims to remove 90% of the ocean's floating plastic pollution by 2040, which could help restore the marine ecosystem.

As of August 2023, the organization has removed more than 15.8 million kilograms of trash from rivers and the Great Pacific Garbage Patch.
