Your Instagram photos may now be training someone else’s AI. Meta has enabled its new Muse AI image generator for users by default. It allows people to generate AI images of you by using your public Instagram handle, with no notification when your photos are used and no way to remove images created before you opt out. To opt out: Profile → Menu → Sharing and reuse → Turn off the reuse options under “Allow people to reuse your content on Instagram and with AI features at Meta.”

Parents are being warned not to post photos of their children online in case they are used to create AI-generated sexual abuse material. The National Crime Agency and the Internet Watch Foundation say the threat is growing with more than 8,000 AI-generated child abuse images and videos identified last year. They said parents should check their privacy settings, and review who is able to view images of their children.

The UK government will enforce the creation of non-consensual intimate images as a criminal offence starting this week. Technology Secretary Liz Kendall says deepfake intimate images being created through the Grok AI tool on X are 'vile' and the law will punish people who create them, as well as platforms for hosting it. Ofcom has also announced it has begun investigating over X in relation to potential breaches of the Online Safety Act.
