OG Barry Silbert believes #Bittensor has the potential to be bigger than #Bitcoin ⚫️ "When I think about ways that #Bitcoin could be improved upon.. I believe, is to utilize the incentive being paid to #Bitcoin miners to incent an activity beyond just securing the network" "So with #Bittensor,...

Yes, Bittensor can be difficult to understand, but as Sami pointed out, Bitcoin was also challenging to grasp initially. Take some time to study it :) I recently dropped a new documentary 'The Incentive Layer' that explains how bittensor works, perhaps worth a watch for those interested in learning about bittensor. More info on the docu: Watch in 4k: Enjoy $TAO

Andrew Kang thinks crypto holders are about to get a brutal reality check on how small Bitcoin really is 😳 "People within the crypto space think Bitcoin's the world and it's a big asset, but SpaceX is now bigger than Bitcoin." "To think that robotics, or at least a few robotics companies, are also gonna be bigger than Bitcoin. I don't think it's too far fetched."

🚨 Smart Money Alert: Grant Cardone and Brian Dixon Break Down Investing in Bittensor $TAO "Think about #Bitcoin is decentralized money. TAO and Bittensor is decentralized intelligence." "That's one of the things we've learned today, that #Perplexity and #ChatGPT and #Claude, there's a small percentage of the questions that are getting asked to those platforms that #Bittensor's intelligence is actually feeding for the answer. But they don't tell you that on Claude and they're just licensing that information. And that'll grow significantly over time." "So, we're starting to make some strategic investments in that space because we think long-term it has tremendous upside and it has the same unit economics as Bitcoin. There will only ever be 21 million #Bittensor tokens ever created. It's proof-of-work. And it has a predictable halving schedule... So, it's creating that scarcity long-term into the token."

Former BlackRock fund manager Ed Dowd: "The metals are telling you that there's uncertainty out there and a lack of trust... [and] that gold and silver are going to be part of the new monetary system... [so] gold and silver are the trade and not Bitcoin so much." This clip of Dowd (Edward Dowd), who is also the founder of Phinance Technologies, is taken from a discussion with Michael Farris (Michael Farris) posted to YouTube on January 13, 2026. ---------------Partial transcription of clip--------------- "The metals are telling you that there's uncertainty out there and a lack of trust. I think the big, the moves in gold and silver are really discounting a lack of trust and fear of what is coming and what it's going to look like. And, and also it's also telling you that gold and silver are going to be part of the new monetary system. "And Bitcoin, interestingly enough, has stalled out. It's down 20% since October, the high in October and Bitcoin is barely up today. So, you know, there was always this thesis around Bitcoin that when when there's a new monetary system comes, it's going to, it's going to be protection against, you know, any of that kind of uncertainty. It's increasing. It's becoming increasingly obvious to me that gold and silver are the trade and not Bitcoin so much. "And Bitcoin, unfortunately, is very highly correlated to the Nasdaq and it's disconnected from the Nasdaq. The Nasdaq and Bitcoin have disconnected temporarily. Generally speaking, they're highly correlated. So what does that say? Does that say Nasdaq is going to catch up down to Bitcoin or is Bitcoin going to rally back up? I think that the Nasdaq is going to go down to bitcoin. So that's where we are."

So, does it matter that Bitcoin seems to be moving away from its cypherpunk roots? Bitcoin ETFs and Bitcoin Treasuries have taken BTC mainstream. So I asked Saifedean Ammous this very question. His answer might surprise you... 👀👇 "If you have very strong feelings about how people should and shouldn't use Bitcoin, you're in for a rough time." "To be honest, a lot of people project too much onto Bitcoin. Ultimately, it's just a bunch of software and anybody can use it in any way they want. Initially, it's a small subset of people that use it and then they start projecting their values onto it. And then over time, they expect it to continue to abide by that," Ammous said. "If it's a successful technology, it's going to be used by everybody. It's going to be used by small businesses, large businesses, governments, individuals. It's money. Everybody uses money. There are 8.5 billion people on Earth, they all use money and they're all going to continue to use money. And Bitcoin is just the best money." Ultimately, the protocol itself is immune to the financial instruments that TradFi has concocted. If people want to lend against their BTC or create complex financial products, that does not actually impact the underlying network. "The way that the protocol works is that it's completely blind to what you're doing with your coins on the Bitcoin blockchain there is no paper Bitcoin there's no such thing as paper Bitcoin there's only 21 million Bitcoin and every node makes sure of that every 10 minutes and then if somebody who has some of these Bitcoin on their private key decides to sell obligations or financial liabilities referring to that Bitcoin under any condition, that's their choice. It's outside of Bitcoin and it's outside of the realm of other Bitcoin users being able to say this is right or wrong and this should happen or shouldn't happen. People are going to do whatever they want with the Bitcoin, including selling access to it or exposure to it in all kinds of different ways. And if you don't like it, you don't buy it, you can stack your own Bitcoin." You can find the full interview for Cointelegraph in the 🧵. Did Epstein influence Bitcoin core development? Short answer: No. This is not how Bitcoin works. Here’s what happened: Epstein donated to MIT Media Lab…who in turn supported MIT Digital Currency Initiative…which in turn funded Bitcoin developers. These devs used to be funded by The Bitcoin Foundation (which I used to run as volunteer Executive Director) there are many devs and no dev or team had power or control over Bitcoin. Under MIT’s patronage the devs had the same deal they had with us at The Bitcoin Foundation: that they could work on the code and not have direction from the org. More importantly — how Bitcoin works is that *even if* a dev was compromised then the nodes and miners would still have to run that code to make it included in Bitcoin. So for example if I had somehow asked the devs paid by Bitcoin Foundation to “add 1000 coins for Bruce” 1) they wouldn’t have done this / it would have been counter to our agreement 2) no miners would run that code & no nodes would recognize it. It would be a laughing stock and completely rejected. Does this mean code dev is not an attack vector? No. It’s still a risk. Particularly with nation state style actors and very careful efforts to co-opt which are much more sophisticated than “give Bruce coins” or something. This is one reason I’m cautious of Bitcoin core funding - especially from actors who’ve had bad judgment in the past. I think we should be cautious of who does the dev and view it as an attack vector. Bitcoin code is transparent and has lots of eyes on it. So in this case especially there isn’t even a solid accusation, let alone evidence that MIT directed nefarious code changes. If that was an allegation the first question should be: well what code specifically did MIT direct and what proof is there and how was it harmful? I think claims around this would collapse. There’s obviously plenty to criticize about Epstein and MIT working with him — and when it comes to digital assets MIT’s work with Gensler and especially its work on CBDCs is much more suspect than the chance that malicious code was pushed through on Bitcoin. Be cautious but this is a nothing burger

.Erik Voorhees: It’s actually good, from the Trojan horse perspective, that Bitcoin was traceable enough for traditional institutions to tolerate it. “When Bitcoin came out, everyone called it private, thought of it as private. It was referred to as anonymous in every news story. And in some ways, it is very private and very anonymous. But the truth is that it’s also extremely trackable and traceable. It is not private in reality. And the question is, should it have been from the start? And at first I thought, yes, it should have been more private. And that was a mistake in its design. However, I think if Bitcoin had been anonymous truly from the start, like a Zcash or a Monero, it would have had such antagonism from the state. I don’t know that the state could have snuffed it out, but they would have tried much harder. And I think it’s actually good, from the Trojan horse metaphor perspective, that it was traceable enough that the traditional institutions could tolerate it. They’ve never liked it, but they could at least tolerate it because there is some traceability. And that has allowed Bitcoin to grow. And I think in its shadow, that other crypto assets are actually anonymous is very healthy. The strength of cryptocurrency as a concept in society, I think, is served best when Bitcoin itself is not perfectly private, but other assets are. That is a very difficult thing, I think, for the state to combat. And that decentralization of attributes is really, really crucial. So, yeah, I’m very glad that there are other coins that are private. I want there to be more of them, and I want them to be more popular. And I think it’s okay that Bitcoin itself is not.”

Threadguy predicts this will be the first bull run in crypto history where Bitcoin doesn't participate "This is going to be the first bull run in the history of crypto where Bitcoin flat out does not participate. No role, no say, it will be minimal at best. It will be Bitcoin to $75k, Bitcoin to $80k, Bitcoin to $85k, and there will be mania on-chain." "My entire thesis is that the next cycle comes from new blood getting access to on chain through these apps. This new crowd doesn't even know what Bitcoin is. Anyone that joined because they saw Kimchi or Cented or Rasmr, they don't know what Bitcoin is. If there's a pocket of excitement and new blood in crypto, it will have nothing to do with Bitcoin, the same way Bitcoin had nothing to do with the disaster that on-chain became in 2025. You cannot have it both ways. The two have been separated for years."

Public Bitcoin Miners Are Going Extinct as AI Compute Takes Over "TeraWulf signs 19 billion lease with Anthropic for AI infrastructure campus, expects to bring 400 megawatts of computing power online by 2028" "It's $19 billion contract for 20 years, basically just to host AI infrastructure instead of Bitcoin mining infrastructure for a company that's entire market cap is $12 billion ... this one deal alone is bigger than all of TeraWulf" "So I believe we've seen 70 billion plus dollars in AI compute contracts for the artists formerly known as Bitcoin miners" "At the same time that these miners are wholesale moving over to AI, they're also now selling Bitcoin and have ceased to be holders" "And I really do think that public Bitcoin miners are largely going to become extinct. They're going to be AI compute centers that occasionally probably maybe decide to mine a little bit of Bitcoin"

"Bitcoin is oversold. It's been artificially lumped in with software stocks for no good reason." Lyn Alden (Lyn Alden) on why the crash hit Bitcoin harder than it should have: "The washout from the Treasury company mNAVs was painful. The quantum FUD had to be explored. It's not a bubble, but it's somewhat euphoric right now." "Sentiment on Bitcoin is unfairly negative, to say the least." "Gun to my head, if I had to bet Bitcoin or gold over the next two to three years, I'd bet Bitcoin. I own both. I've always owned both. But if I had to pick, it's Bitcoin." Translation: the crash lumped Bitcoin in with the AI software selloff it has nothing to do with. Gold ran its move and is now near fair value. Bitcoin got sold on sentiment, not fundamentals, which is exactly the setup that reverses when risk appetite returns.

VanEck CEO Jan van Eck on CNBC: “There’s something else going on within the Bitcoin community that non-crypto people need to know about. And that is: ultimately, VanEck has been around before Bitcoin. We will walk away from Bitcoin if we think the thesis is fundamentally broken. We don’t right now, but you always have to look at the underlying technology and the crypto. What the Bitcoin community has been asking itself is: Is there enough encryption in Bitcoin, because quantum computing is coming? And secondly: Is there enough privacy in Bitcoin? And so a lot of Bitcoin OGs or maxis have been looking at Zcash. Zcash is a token. It’s sort of related to Bitcoin with a lot more privacy. The kind of garbage that we got about Bitcoin four years ago was: ‘It’s used for all bad illicit behavior.’ But now everyone kind of realizes that when you move money around on the Bitcoin blockchain, you can see it. You can see it move from one wallet to another. And a lot of people are looking for more privacy.”

After depreciation it costs $90,000 to mine a single Bitcoin, and Bitcoin isn't trading at $90,000 "At first it felt like that's what was happening with Bitcoin miners, that they'd simply call themselves AI adjacent to catch a bid and see the price go up. But this is really a major structural change. Bitcoin miners no longer make very much money mining Bitcoin" "It's always been a very tough business, especially for publicly traded companies that actually have to report. Riot reports that pre-depreciation, it costs them nearly $50,000 to mine a Bitcoin. But when you include depreciation, it's about $90,000 to mine a single Bitcoin. Checks notes, Bitcoin's not trading at $90,000" "These guys lose money, it's a hard business, there's tons of competition. They can just switch over to AI and all of a sudden it starts raining profits"

A Bittensor subnet just outscored Claude and Cursor on the SWE benchmark. They spent less than $1 million to get there. Anthropic spent billions. I sat down with Mark Jeffrey, one of the most connected people in the Bittensor ecosystem, and he broke down everything. Here's what most people don't know about TAO. Bittensor takes Bitcoin's mining concept and makes it programmable. Instead of solving meaningless hash puzzles, miners compete on real AI tasks. Best freelancer wins. Blockchain pays them. No company. No CEO. No permission needed. Bitcoin did this for energy. Bittensor does it for talent. The numbers are wild: • Ridges (Subnet 62) built a Claude/Cursor competitor for under $1M • Miners on Ridges were earning $50K per day at peak • The Bittensor network has 128 subnets, each like its own AI startup • Mark says 20-30 of them could become multi-billion dollar companies • Only 20% of TAO is staked in subnets right now • Stakers are earning up to 80% yield on some subnets Mark has been in crypto since 2013. He was in the Ethereum ICO. He's seen every cycle. His take: Bittensor is the most important thing to happen in crypto since Ethereum. He calls TAO the "third great coin" alongside Bitcoin and ETH. The comparison to early Bitcoin is hard to ignore. TAO just had its first halving in December. Same 21 million supply cap. Same post-halving setup. When Bitcoin went through this phase, it jumped from $250 to $10,000. Mark's conservative target for TAO by end of 2026: $3,000. But the real insight was about demand. More subnets means more TAO gets locked up. Subnet cap going from 128 to 256. Staking will absorb most of the supply. And AI agents need crypto to transact. They can't open bank accounts. Bittensor is building the rails for that. Jensen Huang just talked about Templar, a Bittensor subnet, on stage. This isn't theoretical anymore. People are using this stuff. The products on Bittensor are 10 to 100x better than what we saw in early Ethereum. And we're still early.

People really need to revisit their preconceived notions on $TAO. This week on Steady Lads > Bittensor has "gotten past so many halvenings" / "Overspent its emissions" Bittensor had its first halvening event on Dec. 14, 2025 and will not have another halvening until Dec 2029 as it follows the same halvening schedule at Bitcoin. By this logic Bitcoin also overspent its incentives when it paid 50 BTC a block to people mining on laptops who contribute nothing to the network today. > "Become overly gamified" The point on Bittensor incentives being overly gamified is a fair critique of Bittensor from like 2 years ago, but has not been updated to account for upgrades and subnet improvement. dTAO: made emissions a market based system where subnet owners need to attract investment in order to earn emissions from the chain. Before dTAO subnet owners had to convince top validators to give them emissions. Post dTAO subnet owners need to convince a whole market. Emissions at the subnet level have also become more difficult to earn, not less, as owners refine incentive mechanisms and miner competition rises. But hey if you still think Bittensor is gameable, Bittensor is a permissionless protocol so feel free register a UID and start mining.
