Ok, I did not know that the Space Shuttle Columbia used modified Lockheed SR-71 ejection seats for the commander and pilot in its early Approach/Landing Tests and STS-1 to STS-4. They were removed later as they couldn't fit bigger crews and proved useless during most of ascent👀

45 years ago today, astronauts John Young and Bob Crippen completed the first spaceflight of the space shuttle program, STS-1, landing Columbia at Edwards Air Force Base. Hundreds of thousands of spectators gathered in the California desert to witness the landing of the 98-ton (89-tonne) orbiter following its 2-day flight.

Today the NASA family mourns the passing of astronaut and former NASA Administrator, Richard Truly. Truly will be long remembered for his pivotal work on the Space Shuttle's Approach and Landing Tests and the STS-2 and STS-8 missions. He was also the first astronaut to become a NASA Administrator in 1989 and won a Collier Trophy for his role in returning the Shuttle to flight after the Challenger tragedy. He passed away on Feb 27 at the age of 86.

45 years ago... April 14, 1981...spacecraft with no engines glided down and touched down like a giant paper airplane on a dry lakebed in California. Space Shuttle Columbia on STS-1, the very first Shuttle mission, coming in hot over Rogers Dry Lake at Edwards Air Force Base. You see the chase planes, the perfect unpowered approach, wheels kissing Runway 23, and that massive dust cloud as it rolls out. Then the crew... John Young and Robert Crippen... stepping out after 54 hours and 36 orbits in space. This wasn’t just another rocket flight. Columbia proved the Shuttle could launch like a rocket, orbit like a spacecraft, and land like an airplane. Reusable hardware, real test pilots at the controls… it changed everything.The beginning of the Shuttle era in all its glory.

I am happy to announce to everyone that the baby that was stolen from her mom at birth and was sold have been rescued by STS under the leadership of ACP VICTOR…..the mother of the baby came to my office(MVOI) on the 25th of April 2026 after she had explained everything to me I took her straight to STS POLICE STATION IN GUZZAPE where the matter was tabled to the COMMANDER OF STS(ACP VICTOR) after he listened to the matter he took personal interest in the matter and immediately a petition was drafted and taken to the DIG FID where it was approved and the next day 26th April members of STS moved to imo state to make an arrest which was successful and on the 27TH the suspect was brought down to Abuja for further investigations after few days she disclosed it was a lawyer that paid for the baby the sum of 4.5 million naira total after the confession the STS POLICE moved with suspect to Lagos state where they apprehended the lawyer and rescued the baby,yesterday they were all brought down and today here we are,we are waiting for the mother of the child to do a proper handover to the mother of the child

(As a note, while what we see here is pure fiction, and in real life the shuttle could not fly like this, the Soviet Buran did have in testing, two engines similar to the Su-27 for reentry maneuver, so, in theory, it could do this. On its only space flight, the "flight engines" were not used)

The mother of the baby arrived Abuja this evening and we moved straight to the police station where the commander of STS ACP VICTOR handed over the baby to the mother in the background you can see two women,they were the traffikkkers…..they will be charged to court and be prosecuted I have also promised to place the mother of the baby on salary so she can be able to properly take care of the babe and not sell her noodles like I verydarkman used to do years back I also promised to take her son into my custody and send him to school till his university

This was the “Tether Incident” involving the Tethered Satellite System (TSS-1R) experiment, a joint NASA/Italian Space Agency effort. After the tether broke, the crew used onboard cameras (including a low-light or special video camera, often described as sensitive to certain wavelengths) to film the drifting satellite and tether for documentation and analysis. In the video: • The long, straight white line is the tether (with the satellite at one end, appearing as a brighter object or dot). • Surrounding it are numerous small, bright, circular or disc-like objects that appear to “swim,” pulsate, or move in various directions around and seemingly behind the tether. Some look like dots; others appear as larger rings or circles with darker centers. Astronauts on the mission (including Payload Commander Franklin Chang-Diaz) described what they saw in real time as “a little bit of debris that kind of flies with us,” illuminated by sunlight.
