This is great! Can I ask you what software do you use to work on the stacked sprites?

I think I just used the gamemaker sprite-editor.

A small teaser of Astromeda! It's a game inspired by Pokemon, Undertale, and OneShot. Wishlist on Steam! #TrailerTuesday #indiegame #IndieGameDev #GamingNews #Steam

Amazing. I've tried this before but I can't seem to get the technique down. How did you do the torso? Is it a 3D model run through a pixel filter?

No it's just a bunch of 2D images stacked on top of each other.

Does this offer any advantages over a regular solid sprite?

You don't have to draw separate sprites for each angle, and if you wanna change the design ( ie a pattern on the back of the jacket ) you only have to edit the stack.
