previous olodos are angry that they’ve been out-olodo’d by the new set of olodos because their olodo content is now being rewarded with fame and fortune. one cold beer for you guy🤣😭

@hibee240 There's truly no other way. If we honestly hate olodos like we pretend, why have we platformed and enriched more olodos than brilliant minds? For instance, the government will send 1000 people to Mecca but will not enroll 10 children in school. We're just an unserious society.

Nigerians actually dull I'm YCEE is referring to Nigerians rewarding low intelligent content like pellers content and disregarding productivity and academic excellence He never said it's pellers fault , he said "Peller culture" meaning the kind of thing Peller does for money

My take is that Nigerians are not consciously incentivising shallow content. They are not even aware of its corrosive effects. We are, in our perpetual state of constraint, compulsively drawn to it because it offers momentary escape from relentless mental exhaustion. Peller and his kind produce mentally low-stakes content. It demands little attention, little reasoning, and little emotional investment. It is easy to consume, easy to understand, and even easier to react to. You watch, laugh for a moment, and momentarily forget your misery. You watch a TikTok live and see a Nigerian girl come on live to show her dirty toto before thousands. And If you're a loser deprived of real intimacy, you enjoy the spectacle. If you're not, you smirk, scroll past, and move on. Either way, the content has done its job. Everybody wants an opinion. These kinds of content make opinion effortless. Thus the clicks. The comments. The amplification. The proliferation. One could argue, however, that relief is only half the story. Perhaps Nigerians gravitate towards intellectually low-stakes content not only because reality is burdensome, but because such content corresponds to the collective level of our intellectual appetite - or ability. Ability, exactly. Perhaps intelligent content is not rejected out of malice but out of incapacity. That, too, is a valid argument. But if that argument is true, then the conclusion is, The average Nigerian is an olodo. And a society of olodos will always reward olodoic content more generously than intellectual content. So, no, we are not witnessing an uprising. This has been the state of affairs for a long time. The only thing changing is the platform through which it expresses itself.

This is a very good analysis. I often wonder why Nigerians decided to come out now to recognize that they have been rewarding rubbish. With your explanations, I now know that it comes from a place of negative feelings of being surpassed and whatnot. The problem is that the people crying olodo uprising are the same people who rewarded nonsense with views and followships in the past.

@Wizarab10 Well said. The “classism and materiality culture, brought us here”. It’s never an uprising, it’s just a revelation of what has always been.

Dimmykiss said in one of his videos that in a community where people only celebrate the successful people and they don’t care about how the success is achieved, bad things are bound to happen in that community✌️

A society that consistently rewards mediocrity while ridiculing excellence shouldn’t be surprised when fewer people aspire to excellence.

If you think Ycee's point was to blame Peller and his likes, then you need to reassess your own understanding as well.

First class honors doesn’t mean anything anymore! I remember those years where companies go to schools sorting out for students with first class honors.

There is an "olodo uprising" in Nigeria. Let's be clear about that. They were once the minority. Older folks can tell the story better because they witnessed its early stages. Most people on social media today were born after it had already become widespread, so they assume it has always existed at this scale. I agree that social media has amplified its visibility, but that doesn't mean it has always been this pervasive. If anything, it suggests that it is still spreading. I think what we're witnessing is an awakening to this societal anomaly, not the jealousy you claim exists because some "olodo" individuals are becoming more financially successful and gaining fame.

The society has not always been like this, it’s the desperation to get wealth knowing that money can be made thro the internet. I will blame the failed govt instead. Everyone is doing foolish stuff to be noticed n it is affecting the new generation. We should stop indulging them.

Anyone can give their opinion on this, take any side, go as far as they want. But once they try to conclude, they'll come back to agree with what YC said. He didn't say it started today. He said it started, was ignored, and now it's the majority. So when someone says something is the majority, why does it have to start from yesterday? It has existed since years back. And the more it increases, the more it reshapes the culture you're trying to blame it on. It became a thing, a way of life, a system. So no matter how you turn the argument, you'll still agree with him because he never said it started yesterday. He said we kept quiet, and it became the majority.

So, the question is Do we want the pattern to continue A world where you spend millions on your kid just so he ends up fooling online to make money. Won’t be able to contribute where sane and normal people are having conversations?? Those are the real questions

@Wizarab10 This exactly my thoughts Bro. The core character of most Nigerians is Money Worship. Most parents no longer question their children who spend money lavishly without justifiable means. The Just get the money whichever way culture is the main reason for Olodo Uprising

As I will always say fooling content has always been there before it was even tagged that and is predominant due to the indulgence of the masses in Nigeria the likes of shanks, Crazeclown, broad shaggi are intellectual people but as they saw what was selling they indulged in it

Two truths can coexist. YCe was not taking a shot at Peller you were wrong on that. I give it to you on the money worshiping part. It’s a culture that has contributed greatly to all of this.

You’re not wrong about money worship and a skewed reward system being the root issue. But your decision to antagonise the person who served as a call to action for a wider conversation to be had, while giving grace to the Olodos and normalising their existence, has to ragebait.

Lots of people have been talking about this olodo uprising but for me none sha hit the hammer on the nail like you did. It is nothing new that majority of Nigerians celebrate mediocrity and so obsessed with quick fame rather than meaning substance.
