But despite its large 6,300+ acre footprint, it doesn’t provide enough power for one large data center complex in Loudoun County. Loudoun County has more than 200 data centers, and Virginia has more than 600 data centers. More data centers are on the way.

I think the discussion about data centers in space is to address another potential bottleneck in the ecosystem, which is energy. I think the discussion around putting data center in space is there because if you do that, the energy consumption or the energy availability will be there, about trying to solve another potential big issue, which is energy for data center. Jensen Huang $NVDA says the AI energy problem is overblown. “The grid runs ~60% of peak. 99% of the time there’s unused power.” The real opportunity isn’t more energy. It’s smarter data centers. $NBIS is already doing it. In the UK, with National Grid, $NVDA, and Emerald AI, they proved they can cut power usage by up to 40% in under a minute—without impacting critical workloads. Data centers are becoming a grid resource, not a liability. The more I study $NBIS, the more bullish I get.

A local utility company in Illinois has plans to help lower residents electrical bills They will be requiring new data centers and planned data centers to sign 10 year contracts saying they will be responsible for paying for upgrade costs and electricity usage costs “That means any new data centers would be on the hook for power upgrades and any energy they plan to use, even if the data center ends up not getting built or if they don't use as much power as planned or if they close. So if they use the power that they're applying for, then they'll pay their fair share of the cost of maintaining and building our grid through their rates”
