One problem with the current system is that it tells you that you qualify for a green card based on X but due to number quotas you're forced for wait decades. A better system, ranks you based on your characteristics and behavior and then allows those who meet the bar to live here without wait.

But then there are racist senators like Durbin who would rather see trillion dollar startup ecosystems pop up in India, Germany and Canada than fix the Stone Age immigration system at home. US will lag behind in innovation if it doesn’t fix immigration.

@NikkiHaley I have no interest in allowing more politically left-wing “high skilled” immigrants to pour in and change the partisanship of our country. A crafty screening process should devised to keep out those who do not want to assimilate or who are hostile to our institutions and values

Immigration courts are overseen by the Department of Justice itself. That means judges are required to answer to the administration whose policies they're ruling on. While talking about confrontation with China, they assert that high immigration is simply the correct policy (even a “superpower”) for the West and that Trump and his populist peers have it wrong because the population must keep growing to compete? Never mind that mass immigration itself has become one of the defining national security and political questions of the West, never mind the emergence of AI and automation, never mind concerns over immigration are one of the principal reasons populists like Trump are being elected, never mind a large portion of immigrants are coming from China. One is the Director of the International Security Program at the Lowy Institute and the other is the former Deputy Secretary for Strategy in Defence. Actually terrifying that for all the in-depth discussion they could have on vital interests and IR realism when it comes to immigration it’s just vapid. I want to share my personal thoughts on a news story I've been covering extensively for the News on Merit Street. It's a story that has garnered a lot of attention, already viewed in whole or part tens of millions of times. I'm talking about my latest special assignment for Merit TV on immigration, specifically illegal immigration. We deal with facts, reality, what is actually happening, not what people wish was happening. Some people don't like the law, don't like ICE enforcing the law. Ironic that the critics are the very ones that advocated for the open border that allowed the dangerous criminals to get into our country and cry the loudest when someone has to come behind them and clean it up.

The slightest ask for explanation or scrutiny placed on these nonsensical positions results in this rhetorical gobbledygook: "They're all part of this long term goal where we are putting huge amounts of resources into alleviating poverty, into stopping destabilization of countries internationally that are causing a huge migrant flow." "Most people in the US are here because of a prior period of unrestricted immigration or of much looser immigration." "We're not saying throw the gates open. We're saying, let's look at where the system is really flawed, really problematic." Interviewer: "I think that's called immigration reform." "It is, but we think that you have to look at all of these things from first principles. Right? We started here from first principles. So what do we want out of an immigration system. Let's start there." "That doesn't mean thinking just throwing open the borders and then building from the ground up." I'm a product of boarding school but over the years, I've come to strongly oppose the boarding school system. Just picture sending these kids off to boarding school and dumping them on the teachers. Don't forget, they are there for nine months out of the year. That means the school administration is stuck fixing the mess that was created at home instead of fully focusing on what they're actually paid to do. We need to do better.
