In 2025, Israeli authorities demolished at least 1267 structures on the pretext of “illegal construction” throughout the West Bank. Israeli planning and building authorities exploit Israel’s control in Area C to prevent Palestinian development and drive communities off their lands, as part of a systematic policy of ethnic cleansing in the West Bank. This year, Israel demolished more structures on the pretext of construction without permits than in any year since B’Tselem began documenting these demolitions in 2006. Israel refuses almost all Palestinian requests for building permits, whether for homes, public buildings or infrastructure. As a result, Palestinians are forced to build without permits on their own private land and live under constant threat of demolition, harm to their livelihoods and displacement. According to the UN, over the past year Israel demolished hundreds of structures in the West Bank on the pretext of military needs, during operations and arrest raids targeting Palestinians. According to the report, about 32,000 Palestinians were displaced from their homes in 2025 following military operations in the Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur a-Shams refugee camps in the northern West Bank.
