Eby’s government believes they create wealth and prosperity in their offices in Victoria. The B.C. What we saw in Question Period today was a masterclass in financial denial. I laid out the numbers, real, unavoidable numbers, showing that British Columbians pay $18.5 billion in income tax and $5.1 billion of it now goes straight to servicing this government’s debt. And what did the Finance Minister offer in response? A “news flash” Well, here’s my news flash: When 30 cents of every income tax dollar is being vacuumed up by interest payments, you don’t get to pretend everything is fine. She insisted this was all “reasonable,” as though families in British Columbia aren’t already drowning in record affordability pressures. She rambled on about hospitals and schools as if that somehow explains why nearly half the debt her government accumulated isn’t for infrastructure at all, but for operating deficits, overspending with nothing permanent to show for it. Then came the talking points: ICBC, rent, child care, the same stale list she recites whenever she needs to fill airtime. Not a single word about why British Columbia now leads the country in unaffordability. Not a single word about why people are leaving this province in numbers we haven’t seen in decades. Not a single word about why debt-service costs are exploding while outcomes get worse. And the punchline? She actually expects British Columbians to feel grateful, grateful that their government has maxed out the provincial credit card and now hands them a bill worth more than the “rebates” they were promised. Grateful that interest payments, not public services, are eating their paycheques. If she wants to throw around “news flashes,” here’s one she can pin to her desk: A government that can’t live within its means has no business lecturing families who are trying to live within theirs. Wow. This independent voter completely tore Kamala Harris apart. This is brilliant. She was hoping Kamala would actually give her some answers, but Kamala left her with more doubts and concerns. “What is an opportunity economy? What does that mean? Who's paying for the tax cuts that she's proposing? ... Who's paying for all of these child tax credits? That's just the taxpayers coming out of pocket and hurting the middle class again.” “And we know from Donald Trump's presidency before he can fix the economy. So I was really looking for her to make an impact on my thought process tonight, and she didn't deliver that.”

I pressed Premier David Eby on the simple, unavoidable truth: under his government, major economic opportunities are slipping away, families are leaving in staggering numbers, and investors are looking south for stability they no longer find here. I pointed out what everyone can already see. Trade with the United States is rising, but our access to Asia is stagnating. Energy projects capable of delivering world-priced returns are being blocked. Seventy thousand people have left this province in the last year alone. And now Nutrien, one of the most significant resource players on the continent, has chosen to invest more than a billion dollars in Washington State rather than here in British Columbia. That decision didn’t happen by accident. Even Saskatchewan’s Premier has warned Eby about the dangerous rhetoric and divisive politics coming out of this government. Investors, premiers, and industry leaders across Canada are signaling the same thing: they don’t trust the direction British Columbia is heading. Yet instead of acknowledging any responsibility, Eby tried to dodge and deny. He disputed basic facts and insisted the province is in a period of “epic population growth,” a claim that would surprise the tens of thousands of British Columbians who’ve already left. And after admitting that Nutrien’s decision is “deeply disturbing,” he immediately shifted blame, claiming no one ever told him the project was in jeopardy. In my response, I made it clear that the conversations I’ve had with Saskatchewan tell a very different story. They’re deeply concerned about how impossible it has become to move major projects forward in this province. And Nutrien’s own stated reasons, congestion, bottlenecks, labour instability, reliability problems, and above all, uncertainty, point directly at this government’s policies. The Premier’s answer was to lecture the province on how to pronounce the company’s name and to repeat how many “major projects” he believes are on the books. But none of that changes the reality: when a global company wants to invest a billion dollars, they look for stable rules, predictable permitting, and governments that don’t rewrite the map every six months. They don’t find that in British Columbia anymore. What I made clear today is that this failure matters. It means lost jobs, lost investment, and lost confidence, consequences that British Columbians will bear long after this news cycle ends. The government had the tools to keep this opportunity in British Columbia. They used none of them. And until that changes, more of these opportunities will keep crossing the border. #cdnpoli #bcpoli

Press Release MLA Dallas Brodie Tables Tariff Defence Bill with Largest Tax Cuts in Two Decades April 10, 2025 Victoria, B.C. – Independent MLA Dallas Brodie tabled a private member’s bill today with the largest provincial income tax relief in the last two decades. The Tax Relief and Tarriff Defence Act would lower provincial income tax by 50 percent for every British Columbian earning $100,000 or less. Provincial income tax would be lowered by 25 percent for all individuals earning over $100,000 and for all corporate income taxpayers. This would be the most significant tax relief in British Columbia since the Gordon Campbell tax cuts in 2001. MLA Brodie’s bill would grant Cabinet some of the broad powers Premier Eby had sought in Bill 7—but use of the powers would only be permitted to “eliminate procedural obstacles to the development of natural resources, the building of public infrastructure, and economic advancement of British Columbia”. Cabinet would be empowered to eliminate or modify environmental regulations, consultation processes, and other “undue” procedural barriers. “British Columbians are struggling. We are threatened by many great perils, including tariffs and trade disputes with China and the United States, not to mention the self-inflicted wounds caused by excessive taxation and bureaucracy. This bill will help every single British Columbian. It is time for us to unite to defend this province and our great nation from the extraordinary threats we face,” said MLA Brodie. "This private member's bill leads the way in showing what British Columbia needs to do to make its economy thrive again. The Legislature would be wise to adopt the measures laid out in this bill. Press Release MLA Dallas Brodie Tables Tariff Defence Bill with Largest Tax Cuts in Two Decades April 10, 2025 Victoria, B.C. – Independent MLA Dallas Brodie tabled a private member’s bill today with the largest provincial income tax relief in the last two decades. The Tax Relief and Tarriff Defence Act would lower provincial income tax by 50 percent for every British Columbian earning $100,000 or less. Provincial income tax would be lowered by 25 percent for all individuals earning over $100,000 and for all corporate income taxpayers. This would be the most significant tax relief in British Columbia since the Gordon Campbell tax cuts in 2001. MLA Brodie’s bill would grant Cabinet some of the broad powers Premier Eby had sought in Bill 7—but use of the powers would only be permitted to “eliminate procedural obstacles to the development of natural resources, the building of public infrastructure, and economic advancement of British Columbia”. Cabinet would be empowered to eliminate or modify environmental regulations, consultation processes, and other “undue” procedural barriers. “British Columbians are struggling. We are threatened by many great perils, including tariffs and trade disputes with China and the United States, not to mention the self-inflicted wounds caused by excessive taxation and bureaucracy.
