Jensen Huang just said an empty executive seat is worth more than the wrong person sitting in it. That’s the CEO of one of the largest companies ever built. Huang: “An empty chair is better than a chair filled with the wrong person. And so I’m never in a hurry.” Every company on Earth treats a vacant executive role as an emergency. Huang treats it as protection. Because the wrong person in the right chair doesn’t just underperform. They corrupt everything around them. They make decisions that have to be unwound. They hire in their own image. They build systems someone has to tear down before real work can start. An empty chair does none of that. An empty chair has an error rate of zero. Most of the damage inside a company never comes from the wrong decision. It comes from the urgency to make one. Gavin Newsom’s foray onto the international stage went poorly this week, ultimately concluding in a talk where empty chairs presided over a gripe-fest where he literally offered to sell knee pads with Donald Trump’s signature on them … “in bulk.” The image could not be more stark. Empty chairs for him, standing room only for President Trump. And, indeed, Gavin Newsom was one of the attendees to President Trump’s speech left standing because he couldn’t find a chair. There used to be an unwritten rule that “politics stops at the water’s edge.” I am sure that this norm has been broken repeatedly by members of both parties throughout the year. But I am not aware of any American politician so clearly and unmistakably going on the world stage at the same location as the President with an explicit goal to “counter-program” the President and undermine foreign policy along the way. It’s a new low for a Governor who has consistently reaches for them. Especially during this week while a bipartisan group of California legislators bemoan the budgetary mess Newsom is leaving them on his way out the door.

Imagine showing up to work to be lectured about the "sickness of America" by a raving lunatic who can't do his job, then having him ruin your life because he knows you won't bend to his twisted worldview. I have stockpiles of receipts like this from 2020 but receipts didn't matter back then – all it took was a couple crybullies shouting "racist" and it was game over. I'd move on if I could but what these people did in 2020 continues to haunt me professionally, while all of them are still out there terrorizing everyone they work with with their ethnonarcissism and horrible playing. No one should forget who these people are and all the institutions continuing to platform them deserve to crumble.

It was all over the news, and there were tons of people. I went in thinking, “How would we even meet among so many people?” After saying goodbye to my parents, everyone moved out to the field, and it was time to sit on the allocated seats.
