Your baby doesn’t need screen time. 📱 📺 💻 You probably know that. But did you know that YOUR screen time also holds the potential to influence their development? In research from the University of Texas at Austin recently published in the journal Child Development, investigators synced recordings of mothers and their babies with mom’s smart phone usage records. What they found was that during periods of parental phone usage, verbal interactions between mothers and their babies dropped by 16%. (During comparatively shorter bursts of phone usage lasting less than 2 minutes, these interactions decreased even more - by 26%.) The bottom line: adult phone usage decreases one-on-one stimulation between infants and parents and exposes infants to less language. Screen time can be a touchy topic, I’ve found. And in today’s society it seems increasingly unrealistic to suggest that homes will be completely screen free - for parents or children. I’m a realist here. But perhaps the most interesting data point to come from this study is the average amount of parental smart phone usage they found among study participants: 4.4 HOURS per 12 hours studied. That’s a lot of screen time. The message here isn’t that parents need to (or realistically can) eliminate all smart phone usage. Many wouldn’t have that luxury even if they tried, due to work or other caregiving responsibilities. So what can be done? The authors suggest some important first steps: Being mindful of the impact phones can actually have on our our interactions/caregiving, and Remaining aware of how easily we can become consumed by our phones, despite our best intentions. After all, every minute we spend interacting with a screen is a minute that might otherwise be spent in the kind of brain-building, face-to-face interaction modeled so well by Campbell Williams in this lovely video she shared recently to TT (campbellwilliams_).

While the destructive environmental impact of plastic is well known, it poses serious health challenges as well. In the last few weeks alone, there have been a couple of studies that have shown the health impact of microplastics. One study found microplastics in the human placenta. Another study found that micro and nanoplastics in key arteries, leading to an increased risk of heart attack. One of the interesting startups we have partnered with through Rainmatter by Zerodha is Zerocircle. They have developed and are scaling alternatives to bio-plastic. Here's Neha the founder, talking to Hansi explaining what inspired her and how seaweed can potentially help us with our plastic problem.

More C64 LittleBigPlanet 8-bit Coding! - Did some work on interactions with Physics Ball, can now go behind and in front of it (That was more pain than I thought it would be!), can stand on it and get a high bounce by holding jump button when you land on it and can also walk on the ball for some clown action! The ball also kind of rolls down 'slopes', (or rather falls off corners), and it also has a proper world position now so can actually be moved from screen to screen - should be able to make some gameplay with this...in theory! #LittleBigPlanet #Sackboy #C64 #8bitart #football

Today's the day: Episodes 1 and 2 of Daily Wire's Pendragon Cycle are streaming! Which means you can hear "Atlantean," the language I invented for the show, for the first time. One of the coolest projects I have ever worked on. Incredible to see these phenomenal actors bring the language to life. In this clip you can hear a prayer in Atlantean, which has a fully functional grammar and an ever-growing vocabulary that I built to integrate it into both the fictional and the real universe. I imagined that Atlantean was descended from C.S. Lewis's "Old Solar" and an ancestor of Tolkien's Elivsh--but also of Proto-Indo-European, and Proto-Semitic, so that traces of the modern Biblical languages and Romance languages can all be heard forming in the words. It's supposed to sound like the long-lost voice of a mythic past that echoes in our present. And that's just *one element* of this epic universe. Watch it at

Nearly 20 years ago, doctors at King’s College London asked: Would giving infants peanuts protect them from developing peanut allergies? At the time, U.S. advice said the opposite: avoid peanuts until toddlers. A 2015 study flipped that guidance, with babies who ate peanuts early were seven times less likely to develop a peanut allergy. Guidelines were updated in 2017, and a 2025 study found the shift led to a 43% drop in peanut allergy cases.
