🚨🇺🇸 BOOTS ON THE GROUND COULD TRIGGER A DISASTER Trita Parsi says sending U.S. troops into Iran would hand Tehran exactly what it wants, more American targets. He says even limited moves like taking Kharg Island could spiral fast, exposing U.S. forces to drones, missiles, and massive retaliation. Trita Parsi

🚨🇮🇷 DETERRENCE IS NON-NEGOTIABLE Trita Parsi, an expert in international relations, claims the U.S. must drop demands for Iran to scrap its missile program. Parsi argues that missiles are Iran's only remaining deterrence against countries that have already attacked them twice. Trita believes it is "inconceivable" for Tehran to give up its primary defense in the middle of active negotiations. Trita Parsi

🚨🇺🇸🇮🇱 Iran told Washington it would strike hard if Israel didn't hold back in Lebanon, and the U.S. watched Iran deliver on its promise. Trita Parsi explained why Trump called Netanyahu out and didn't even try to hide it. This was a historically rare moment of foreign policy pressure on Israel. "Trump forced Netanyahu to apologize to the emir of Qatar. The only other example I could find of that was when Obama forced him to apologize to Erdogan." Trita Parsi

🚨🇺🇸🇮🇱 THE U.S. AND IRAN DISAGREE ON WHAT THE CEASEFIRE COVERS Middle East geopolitical analyst, Trita Parsi, says that's Netanyahu building his own off-ramp. If the threat is gone, the war can stop without admitting defeat. But he's also excluding Lebanon from the ceasefire and escalating against Hezbollah. The White House agreed. Iran and Pakistan say Lebanon is included. Parsi says Iran will push this specifically to answer one question: can Trump actually control Israel? Friday in Islamabad may give us the answer. Trita Parsi talked about how the war is aggravating tensions in the Middle East while Israel capitalizes on the chaos to bring max pain to Iran. 🇮🇷🇺🇸 “Their sense is that they are close.” Iran expert Trita Parsi says U.S. officials told him they believe Washington and Tehran are nearing a deal, despite recent tensions over Israeli attacks on Lebanon. Parsi said Iran views continued Israeli strikes as a serious red line and is using the issue to test whether President Trump is willing, or able, to restrain Benjamin Netanyahu. “If Trump is unwilling or incapable of holding the Israelis back, then what is the value of a deal with the United States?” Trita Parsi | Ryan Grim | Maysa Mustafa

🇮🇷🇺🇸🇮🇱 “IF THE U.S. STRIKES, IRAN MIGHT GO FULL WAR MODE” Trita Parsi warns Iran’s regime believes the U.S. and Israel are trying to fully destroy them, and if they feel cornered, they might hit back hard. "If the U.S. does strike in a limited way, I don’t even know if the Iranians would buy it at this point. The regime believes if they don’t hit back hard now, the U.S. and Israel will just keep going until they’re too weak to fight. I don’t think these Israelis are going to be content with just a decapitation of the regime... they want the U.S. to take out Iran’s military might too. On TV they said after the regime falls, we have to bomb them. After it falls. That silence from Israel these last days? That tells me Trump agreed." Iranian analyst, Trita Parsi

🇺🇸🇮🇷 The U.S. interceptor shortage looks like a constraint on escalation. Trita Parsi fears Washington’s hawks may draw the opposite conclusion: if America cannot reliably intercept Iran’s missiles, destroy Iran’s ability to launch them. “It’s not about whether the United States... can out-arm and outgun Iran. It’s what is the cost it is willing to pay.” That logic turns an air-defense shortage into an argument for attacking Iran’s electricity and critical infrastructure. The weakness meant to discourage a larger war could become the justification for one. Trita Parsi

🇺🇸🇮🇷🇮🇱 Trita Parsi says the last round had an important restraint: Washington did not want Israel turning a limited conflict into an attack on Iran’s critical infrastructure. That restraint may disappear. “A lot of the things... that thankfully didn’t happen, are on the table in a much more realistic way.” Parsi fears a post-midterm escalation could see the U.S. and Israel aligned on attacks against Iranian energy and other infrastructure, with Tehran responding much harder against Israel and U.S. positions across the Gulf. The longer this continues, the harder the off-ramp becomes. Each round leaves the next one with fewer limits. Trita Parsi

According to proponents of a U.S. blockade, "Iran should have crumbled about 10 days ago, and it clearly has not happened,” says Trita Parsi (Trita Parsi) of Quincy Institute. “That's part of the reason why you see the president increasingly using desperate language and even considering desperate moves such as moving U.S. warships through the Persian Gulf in order to protect other ships.”

🇮🇷🇺🇸 Iran's bet is that dragging this into the midterms squeezes Trump politically. Trita Parsi thinks that bet may be backwards, and he's not saying it as a critic of Tehran. Iran isn't rushing back to the table because returning on demand would let Trump treat war and diplomacy as a switch he flips whenever it suits him. Refusing takes the switch away. "I do fear that they're going to drag it out, and they may have miscalculated" Meanwhile Kuwait's desalination and power plants were both hit days after the U.S. struck the same categories inside Iran. Nobody's behaving like they want off-ramps. Trita Parsi

Dr. Trita Parsi (Trita Parsi) | Middle East Expert | Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft: Diplomacy can still work to stop the war - but it has become much harder. Despite escalation in Lebanon, attacks on Iran & Iranian strikes on GCC states, diplomacy was never shut down. That tells you the desire for a deal on both sides is strong enough to weather even these setbacks. But the last 5-6% of the distance comes down to trust. And that is exactly where they are stuck.

🇺🇸🇮🇱🇮🇷 U.S. WILL LEAD THE IRAN WAR, BUT IT WASN’T TRUMP’S IDEA, IT WAS ISRAEL’S Iranian analyst Trita Parsi says Trump was persuaded by Netanyahu on Dec 29 to lead the strikes on Iran, well before the protests escalated to where they are today. The reason was never about the protestors. "My expectation was that Israel would push for war and get the U.S. to support it, not lead it. But what happened is the opposite. Trump was convinced at Mar-a-Lago to take the lead. It’s being framed as his war now. But it wasn’t his idea. The protests have nothing to do with this. In fact, they might have delayed it. The plan was already made on December 29 at the White House. The justification is protests, but the real issue is missiles. This war is about finishing what wasn’t finished last June." Trita Parsi
