One thing I wish I could change about DR is Flashback NEVER playing on the main route Like it feels way too connected to the Weird Route specifically, especially in chapter 5. Imo it shouldn’t even be an uploaded track either, except for the Sword Route via NORTHERNLIGHT.

I get what you’re saying, but hearing a song that’s so tied to the weird route like 5 minutes into chapter 3 was such an incredible moment that I can’t hate it

What!? Seeing "Flashback (Excerpt)" in the base game is exciting. It's suggestive, trying to get us to exhaust more options. The existence of a "Flashback (Full)", makes us want to push the game to find it, in the same way we're trying to push the game to find a new ending in WR.

It could be called “flashback_excerpt” in the files or something without ever being uploaded to add to the mystery

i did like it in chapter 3 but it being used in chapter 5 for a joke was crazy

I don't know, Flashback playing in the main route is part of the reason Side B Flashback hits as hard as it does for me at least. It's the same song but stuttering like it's broken and then the menacing guitar hits. It's not just the same motifs, but a corruption of what you know

We haven't even heard the Full Flashback yet. It's just an excerpt from a possible full song in Chapter 6 and 7.

There's a second version in the game files as well. Gaster's theme is also pretty explicitly in the Chapter 5 one (even more than another him). I doubt we're done with it. Especially since its called "Flashback" and we haven't seen it used as flashback music yet.

Maybe because it’s NOT just connected to the weird route? The Ch5 version isn’t called Flashback (Full) or anything like that in the files, it’s just “weird monologue deep”. I’m expecting the full flashback to be played for what happened to Dess and have Gaster’s theme

I feel like the scrapped stealth area music should have been used here instead, mostly because it has the lost girl motif and sounds vaguely like a detective putting the clues together

That doesn't really work cause asgores monolog to kris at the end of ch5 uses weird route imagery, which means the two routes have connections that we aren't fully aware of yet which justifies the music being shared probably

i feel the opposite cuz each one comes with a different feeling before and after it starts and it instills in you that feeling at that time. Music has a magical way of doing that sometimes.

eh, no. flashback is haunting. it fits with ralsei's explanation that dark worlds aren't real (especially with the FRIEND part). it fits with tenna lamenting about people no longer coming. this just feels a little too awe-inspiring

I liked it cause most of the tracks reminded me of Sephiroth on the OG PS1.

I mean if you never knew about the weird route, you woulda heard about in chapter 3’s MANTLE game, which should’ve been the first organic start point

consider how auraful it would be if Northernlight was your first instance of hearing flashbacks motif before hearing the real track like how you kill 8bit berdly before freezing the real one

I'd like to think it's only stuff related to the device and gaster. I'm a firm beliver that we won't see gaster on the normal route, only the weird route. It would make sense that the path to him and the explanation of dark fountains are the only place this song appears

No yeah this track was so emblematic for WR to me it was weird hearing it on Main Route I was jumpscared into thinking the game was detecting the Weird Route save lol
