Australia’s eSafety Commissioner, Julie Inman Grant, recently directed social media companies to take steps to prevent children from altering or falsifying their age to bypass upcoming restrictions for users under 16. This directive is part of the broader implementation of the Online Safety Amendment (Social Media Minimum Age) Act 2024, which requires platforms to enforce age verification and block underage users starting December 10, 2025. The guidance builds on earlier research from September 2024 showing that only 13% of underage accounts were previously shut down for age violations, highlighting the need to stop children from "changing their age" on profiles to evade detection. This aligns with the law’s goal to stop social media access until age 16 in order to "protect young users from harms such as cyberbullying and addictive platform features", while exemptions will apply for non-social platforms like gaming and messaging apps.

We applaud Governor Hochul for calling for strong, consistent online safety protections in New York and for outlining sensible priorities for legislation. Several of the Governor’s priorities, including default-off settings for minors and parental controls, are safeguards we have already implemented on Roblox. Another, advanced age verification, is currently being rolled out globally. Estimating the age of users who want to communicate on Roblox helps limit kids to chatting with other kids, not unknown adults by default. We also go further in key areas of online safety. For example, we do not allow users to send each other images or videos on our platform. This work is ongoing, and we know no system is perfect, so we continue to strengthen protections to help keep users safe, as well as working to educate parents about online safety. While the legislative process is just beginning in New York, we are supportive of the Governor’s online safety initiative and the priorities she has outlined. We look forward to reviewing the details of the proposal and working collaboratively on these efforts to make the digital world safer for children.

Notice how they are using the “it’s for the safety of our children” excuse when we all know this is just another step towards a digital dystopia!

Aaron Siri n the Dengue Vaccine, "it actually reviewed safety for six years for severe dengue and hence mortality [and] it had a placebo control [of] over 30,000 children [and] what it found was that children that were under 6 years of age, had increased risk of severe harm and death from the vaccine".
