Only a very specific lens can pull off this macro-to-wide reveal shot in BETTER CALL SAUL. Unique optical engineering helped deliver the visual storytelling.

Kid. Are you dumb? Probes have been around for a long time and that Laowa one you can easily rent online. It’s a cool shot but it’s not some “unique” thing or whatever. Open the schools.

Impressive, I would have thought it was two or more shots stitched together

Better Call Saul is a masterclass in storytelling—flawless from beginning to end, with zero drop in quality.

Wait, can a lawyer really pull this off in a real court? This clip is a famous scene from the television show Better Call Saul. In it, the lawyer (Jimmy McGill) pulls a "switcheroo" by having a lookalike sit next to him at the defense table instead of his actual client, all to trick the witness into making a false identification. In Better Call Saul, this is what Jimmy McGill was supposed to look like as a teenager. Bravo Vince.

This incredibly long crane shot pulls back through a window to reveal a city. It was shot in 1931 and I think a miniature set was attached to the camera lens, which was released during the pullback. Or they shot it in reverse? 🎥

Bob Odenkirk as Saul Goodman in Breaking Bad (2008) is flawless casting. He was only meant to appear in a handful of episodes, and scheduling conflicts almost cost him the role, but the performance hit so hard it led to Better Call Saul.

I just love how this shot from the first episode of Better Call Saul establishes the two characters relationship without saying a word. One of the most realistic love stories ever portrayed.

Better Call Saul almost ended on that quiet shot of Saul and Kim sharing a cigarette in the visitation room but Peter Gould scrapped it. He felt it was more honest to end with their prison-yard goodbye, to show that Jimmy will spend his life behind bars.

Can thinking ‘opposite field’ help you pull it better? Can thinking ‘pull the ball to the opposite field’ help you drive oppo better? - Have seen this work very well - Crossfire training is 🔥 - Build the ability to do both.

this is a really killer coverage trick in ONLY THE BRAVE. watch the seamless switch from a wide shot to a medium shot as the camera pans by the wood post.

The Inside Out dragon is one of the greatest optical illusions! It’s the very same effect used in Disney’s Haunted Mansion, but we think the dragon pulls it off even better. Saw this at the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia It can never stop following me!

A Lens That Takes Derivatives US Patent Basis: US8610839B2 - Optical Processing System for Computing Derivatives. In a 4f Optical Processor, the first lens takes the incoming field and forms its Fourier spectrum. At that middle plane, a tiny optical mask multiplies the spectrum by iξ. This is the derivative operator written in Fourier language u(x) -> U(ξ) -> iξU(ξ) -> ∂u/∂x Then the second lens brings the field back to the real space. What comes out is no longer just a focused beam. It is the spatial derivative of the input field, computed by light as it propagates. So, this is the serious promise of optical computing. A physical optical train can perform operations that usually live inside numerical code: differentiation, filtering, convolution, edge detection, correlation, and many other linear transforms.
