Director Stephen Sommers deserves far more credit for THE MUMMY, especially for practical effects like in the Battle of Hamunaptra. Real stunts, real horses, real location. CGI was largely reserved for Imhotep and the supernatural, with just over 245 post-production VFX shots.

As far as we have come in filmmaking, this shot from 1940 is still pure magic.

Danny DeVito directed HOFFA in 1992 and casually dropped this batshit crazy, David Lynchian transition into the film.

THE MUMMY uses a "graphic match cut" on the map to jump forward in time and seamlessly enter a new location. By keeping the map as the visual anchor, the audience instantly understands the transition. An elegant editing technique that compresses time and keeps the story moving.
