Lucas has a good interview with Matt Stone, who said he gave up on new TV shows because streaming economics “distort the art”. Stone’s view helps explain 30-70% viewership drop-off for Netflix shows between S1 and S2. Streaming shows are created at volume and not every episode can maintains the quality bar. This causes problem because one of the key metrics for streamers is “completion rate” (% of people who finish a show they started). Low completion rates lead to shows getting cancelled. This is why so many with devoted fan bases get scrapped after 1 or 2 seasons. Viewers enter shows not knowing how many seasons they will get. When execs decide to renew, it often takes 2-3 years between new seasons. Even when a show gets multiple seasons, the median viewer then bounces after a bad episode…which then lowers completion rate…which leads to eventual cancellation…which conditions viewer to expect streaming shows to all eventually crap the bed and/or leave narrative arcs hanging (if they get cancelled). Stone did watch a few streaming show but always caught a dud episode and “it feels like your wasting my time, it’s a betrayal.” Add in Netflix’s binge mode style — without the traditional weekly audience can talk about the show cadence — and it’s hard for viewers to truly invest their attention. Also, shows that do get a 2nd season have the marketing energy split with the conveyor belt of brand new shows Netflix is always cranking out. “The butter and bread equation has gotten screwed up in the 2010s,” Stone says. “There’s this much butter in the world but we’re going to make [a lot more] bread. There’s just not that much good stuff out there.” *** Full interview here from 2025:

Ed Johnson, election integrity expert, alerts me to a danger to the implementation of the Texas redistricting plan and election integrity. He discovered an amendment slipped thru the regular session that allows voters to move their registration within counties on election day, enabling organized efforts to swamp one district with voters from another in the big counties to game redistricting. He met with Greg Abbott yesterday to discuss the problem and to discuss adding a solution to the problem to this second special session. The video below shows State Rep Matt Shaheen adding this problematic language on May 28. Note the pleased reaction of Dem Reps Erin Zweiner and John Bucy in the video. The offending language added a new section to Election Code 15.025: "(e) A voter’s registration takes effect immediately upon the registrar’s receipt of a notice of the voter’s change of address submitted under Section 15.021, Section 63.0011, Section 15.053, or Chapter 20 if the voter changes residence within the same county as the voter’s current registration address." Before I heard about this problem, I have said that I think the evidence shows that the price extracted from the Burrows Uniparty Team for the Dems putting him into power this session was the gutting of election integrity laws. I think this more evidence of cooperation between the Dems and the Burrows team to thwart election integrity. If you agree that this issue needs to be fixed, use this link, I urge you to contact the governor's office, urging him to add a fix for this same day registration problem to the special session call. This is the text I used in my submission: Please add to the second special session call: Legislation that will not allow any immediate effect of voter registration within 30 days of an election. Specifically, Texas Election Code 15.025(e) that was added as an amendment to 89th SB 2217 needs to be deleted. *** BTW, note that no one snapped to the problem as the amendment was introduced at the end of a very long session in the hard slog in consideration of lots of bills. I am not sure I would have, either. I thank Ed Johnson for this catch and his efforts to rectify it.

First thing that should be clarified, this is not a partnership or an affiliation with Ravensburger or Disney. I’m a huge Lorcana and Disney fan and would love to partner with them if ever possible. I was lucky enough to get to travel to all the NA DLCs last year and meet tons of other fans. We will be releasing altered/custom foiled versions of the official Lorcana playmats. All playmats were purchased by myself and will include the original box. We are limited on each design but overall we have almost 300 spread across all designs now. This 1st release will include Elsa, Tinker Bell, Rapunzel, Wizard Pooh, Belle, and We could be Immortals. The 2nd release will have Champion playmats and some of the remaining designs. The date for the 1st release will be Sunday May 18th. Price range for each playmat will depend on the price of the original playmat and how complex the design takes to make. These will be starting at $60. There will be a limit 1 copy of each design per order. The goal is to make these accessible to all players at an affordable price. We are planning to launch our “SYOP” program by June. This will allow customers to send in their own official playmats to get foiled out for Lorcana, Pokemon, MTG, and etc. This service will start at $40. We will have drop offs at selected shows coming up this year. International shipping will be turned on for physical purchases but not for the SYOP program. Thank you all again for the support. I started creating playmats as a hobby in my free time because of my passion for the game. I have enjoyed the journey so far and it’s so refreshing to actually be able to work on art again. We are excited about the future ahead and truly appreciate all of our fans. If you have any questions, please let us know.

Congrats to EloShapes.com on their launch! On a similar note, is out of beta and available to the public. A lot of you have been asking me what my plan is now that EloShapes is also doing 3D scans... the answer is: nothing changed! I think that competition is good. I'm a mouse nerd and a LONG TIME EloShapes user, so the more options I get as a user, the better. I really think that my vision and EloShapes, though, is fundamentally different. I've had the domain for FMM for years, I have a much larger platform in mind compared to what I built so far. The 3D scans are the necessary step for my vision, not the end goal: they never were. I am also very proud of the fact that I've been able to scan at least 5 mice in full color EVERY DAY with my own pipeline, and I think I will easily have almost full coverage of the mice people would want on the website within months. Check the video for the mice I've added in just the last few days, all textured. Apart from some of the features I've mentioned before (like the virtual hand/grip), FMM is meant to be kind of a "MyAnimeList" for mice, so that you can share your profile, like this: and then later on leverage this curated list of mice you build for yourself to be shown even more mice you might like. FMM is also a tool for reviewers and anyone that wants to share their opinions on mice. Links like this: allow you to easily share your specific points about a mouse via the annotations, viewpoint sharing and measurements. And of course, as I've said since the beginning, I will use FMM to centralize all my hard testing about sensors, dpi, and such, so that you'll be able to find EVERYTHING about a mouse, including the raw results of my standardized sensor implementation testing. So, with this said, I will keep scanning as many mice as possible and adding as many features as possible until FMM becomes what I envisioned so long ago. Join my discord if you want to keep up! I hope you'll all give it a try! Ciao!
