When government redefines “infrastructure” to include AI and data systems, the impacts are not abstract. Workers face displacement, and vulnerable Canadians risk being shut out as essential services move toward AI-enabled, digital-only models. Yet Parliament was never given the opportunity to debate or approve this $10-billion expansion of the Canada Infrastructure Bank’s mandate. Even the Minister of Infrastructure has acknowledged there is no bill authorizing this sweeping change. Redefining how billions in public dollars are allocated is not a technical adjustment. It is a fundamental policy shift, and Canadians deserve clarity, transparency, and full parliamentary accountability when changes of this magnitude are made.

One of the (many) reasons I think people are so anti-AI is that it’s a gratuitous display of wealth inequality. The average person’s life is difficult, expensive, and getting any kind of loan sucks - unless you’re raising billions of dollars to build an AI data center.
