Almost but not quite. The word to express surprise was hullo, and the word to call at someone from a long distance away was hallo. The word “hello” was an entirely new invention, but it was inspired by hullo and hallo.

This is interesting. Now I want to rewatch that cartoon and see the year on the building that was being demolished, when the guy found the frog in a box.

And speaking of greetings,.. Did you know Boker Tov is the Hebrew word for Good Morning, just as Shalõm is Hebrew for hello, goodbye, or peace! But, I'm gonna say Grand Rising to ya and share this video of this precious little boy feeding these cute and hungry sheep. 😊

The word "hello" first appeared in English around the early 19th century. Its earliest known use is from the 1820s, as a variant of "hallo" or "hollo," which were used as shouts to attract attention or express surprise.

In Latin America it was “bueno” as in good line connection, now you can begin to speak.
