Our housing system has been handed over to bankers and developers, so we live in bankers' and developers' world. If we want to REDUCE the cost of housing - both rent per month and mortgage interest over a lifetime - then we need a lot of social housing and rent controls.

To combat the housing shortage, I'll fight to build millions of units of affordable housing — reinstating the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to build what the private market won't. I'd double housing vouchers, make rent tax deductible just like mortgages, and ban private equity from buying up our homes. New Brunswick renters need access to affordable housing. That’s why, as of February 1, 2025, rent increases will be capped at 3% annually. This measure will help protect renters from rapidly increasing housing costs and eliminate surprise rent hikes. More details will be available later this week. With help from our partners, we will continue to address every piece that is putting pressure on housing across our province so that everyone has access to a safe and affordable place to call home.
