My bill to transfer a vacant US USDA Forest Service building to Perry County passed the House today with overwhelming bipartisan support. It’s honestly ridiculous that it takes an act of Congress to transfer a long-vacant federal building, especially when the county is ready to take possession. Nonetheless, we’re one step closer to saving taxpayer dollars and putting this property to work for Perryville and the surrounding communities. In my county, we’re seeing a 30% increase in search and rescue calls—the vast majority involving people from outside the county. Our search and rescue teams are being forced to do more with less. I’m working to change that. My amendment to help make our rural counties whole is now law. And I’ll keep working to bring federal dollars home for rural communities and law enforcement.
