This is the school prayer at a Christian school in the Tower Hamlets area. You guys are cooked. As a Mom of a 2 boys going to Catholic school, this school prayer absolutely floored me last night as I went down my rabbit hole exploring school websites in that area.

As self-employed myself, we’ve always been taxed on what we haven’t yet earned! Surely you know about the Jan and July ‘payments on account’ based on that year’s earnings. Effectively double tax, supposed to come off next year, never does. Thieves.

This Government has turned taxing working people into an art form. You get up, go to work and earn your wages — and before the bloody money has even landed in your bank account, the Government has already helped itself through Income Tax and National Insurance. Then you try spending what’s left. VAT. Fuel duty. Council tax. Insurance Premium Tax. Alcohol duty. Stamp duty. They seemingly can’t resist finding another opportunity to stick their hand in your pocket. And after taking all that money, we’re still constantly told there isn’t enough cash and taxes need to rise. Where the hell is it all going? Taxation is necessary to fund a functioning country, but working people have every right to demand value for it. Instead, it increasingly feels like we’re being treated as an endless cash machine for a Government that couldn’t organise a piss-up in a brewery. Stop squeezing the people who get up every morning, work hard and actually keep this country running. We’ve been taxed enough.

What can we do about it is the issue. We can protest and complain but legally they have made sure we cannot do a thing about it. We need new laws that protect us when a government is not fit for purpose. Until then we are screwed.
