ALLEN: Max Tegmark says the key to AI regulation is to leave allowances for tool AI, AI that human beings are in control of, narrow AIs for medicine and for financial analysis, things like this. What should be off the table is any AI that is out of human control. I think that should include control of the populace. The populace doesn’t have a say in what is deployed, which is abhorrent. The populace should have a say in what flies and what does not. Joe Allen

Tesla Chair Robyn Denholm on the proposal for Tesla to invest in xAI: "There is a misunderstanding of AI in the marketplace. AI is not one thing. It is a range of technologies. What Tesla is doin today with AI is quite different to what xAI does. xAI is working on fundamental areas of AI, but it's also working on LLM's. That's not Tesla is doing. With Optimus, we're taking real work application of AI and putting it into physical products to actually employer those products to do things."

The danger of AI is not just the slop, but what we lose in the process. Michael Pollan explains: "We're moving into this time where we're gonna sub out writing to AI. And AI can write our papers, and professors are dealing with this everywhere now. But what is lost is a way of thinking. Writing does something to your brain. It gives you access to things you can't know just walking around or thinking or planning or outlining. If you were just transcribing what was in your head, it would be kind of onerous. But it really is what you learn in the course of a day spent writing, things you didn't know, ideas that you didn't expect. And that's the thrill of it."

I don't think anyone should want to live in a world of AI overlords, where someone is making decisions for all of the future, and in exchange for a cure for cancer, which obviously is a wonderful thing, we collectively cede all agency. I am terrified of a world where the very real fears of AI are used as a way to say, “Only this small group of people can have it because it's too dangerous, and only they understand it. But don't worry, they're gonna make the right decisions for all of us.” I was a child of the internet. There were no rules. It was amazing, and I think it's critical we preserve that spirit with AI."

There have been some glitches, but these things happen in a large event. What has been impressive is the attendance of Presidents, Prime Ministers, and world leaders, and they've come with a strong message of wanting to see a newly integrated world in AI development, where the impact upon society would be the Principle. Preoccupation in India has clearly led the drive in this area. As far as the French Rafale is concerned, parts of it are being manufactured in India, and that is a very important aspect of the deal because it is part of strengthening our defence, but also increasing our self-reliance in the defence sector... Defence is important for India not because we want to go to war, but because we don't want others to think that we are so weak that they can be tempted to go to war. It is a defensive defence literally, and I support the government on that."
