Helitack crews serve as highly skilled and productive aerial firefighting resources. These crews are specially trained in the tactical and logistical use of helicopters for fire suppression, serving as a primary initial attack resource, often first on-scene to assess the wildfire. The U.S. Wildland Fire Service Boise Helitack crew is unique in the sense they are the only Interior-firefighting unit that operates a Type 1 helicopter for helitack operations. Please follow instructions of local Officers and Fire crews. As a precautionary measure the City's Disaster Risk Management teams have assisted with the evacuation of around 198 households from the Noordhoek Manor area, including 48 frail care residents. Road closures around the deep south are in place to protect residents. We urge you to stay away from these areas as traffic becomes gridlocked ⚠️ Donations in the form of water, energy drinks and bars, as well as non-perishable items may be dropped off at Lakeside Fire Station 🤍🤲

Fire crews were called to the scene at 9:19 p.m., with the building housing businesses on the ground floor and apartments on the two floors above. The entire building was evacuated and 11 fire crews responded, with between eight and 10 ambulances also dispatched to the scene. It has not yet been confirmed how many people were injured, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Edmonton Police Service closed 82 Street in both directions between 137 Avenue and Yellowhead Trail to allow emergency crews to respond, citing “a collision and fire” in the area without providing further details.
