On World Children’s Day, Ukraine reminds the world that Russia’s war continues to destroy childhoods. According to Ukraine’s Prosecutor General Office, at least 669 children have been killed and over 2,253 injured since February 2022. Thousands more have been unlawfully abducted to Russia or the temporarily occupied territories. Russia continues to rob Ukrainian children of their basic rights: safety, education, family, and home. I didn’t expect to be outnumbered four to one, but I think this discussion went well. Earlier today on MSNBC, we discussed PragerU in Oklahoma classrooms. At one point the hosts leaned on the false narrative of “book banning” and seemed to dismiss the historical reality that slavery has existed across the world since the beginning of time. America is an incredible nation—one that has confronted tragedy, abolished slavery, and continues to strive for greatness. I appreciate the host’s questions and the opportunity to share my perspective today.
