Outspoken Chiredzi Central MP Hon Makumire had a very difficult time submitting his debate in Parliament as he kept being interjected by MPs from ZANU PF. The speaker of Parliament was clearly taking ZANU PF side and even told makumire themat his debate doesn't hold water since Parliament has...

Our parliament has been reduced to ECD class where you see members of parliament who are supporting this dubious CAB3 speaking as if they are at a political rally 😉 honestly that's taking our country for granted 😉 no logical submissions at all and the speaker will be smiling

Hon Makumire's oppression during his debate exposed for all to see the kind of parliament we have. What a disgrace.

Why do these people advance shallow arguments like these? Say what is wrong with the bill not what Zanu PF has failed to do!

Cry my beloved country. Cry. Cry indeed cry. With this calibre of Mps, especially with what I was hearing from the ruling party, as a nation, we are heading for disaster. A pub debate could be more productive than these thugs masquerading as honourable. No wonder why.

If Honorable Members are in good Books with their areas of Influence that basically means a Referendum is a WIN to them.......then lets do it. 2/3 Majority Rule that has got full support from all 10 Provinces is afraid of a Secret ballot in Parliament🫪🫪🫪

These dimwits seem to think they'll be protected forever. Instead of contributing meaningfully, they're wasting others valuable debate time with pointless points of order and, in the process, exposing their own toxicity for everyone to see.

Hayi lina lingaqambi amanga...Parliament is a deliberative institution, not a silent chamber. Interjections, points of order and challenges are part of debate and happen across party lines. Being challenged during a contribution is not evidence of persecution.

Anyone who actually watches Parliament knows that time limits, interruptions, and strict rulings are how the system works. 1 MP being unhappy doesn't mean the whole thing was rigged. Seeing over 500k public submissions is a sign people are actually participating, not manipulation

A serious constitutional debate like this one requires engagement with the clauses, the legal implications, and the policy rationale. Instead, we got plenty of emotional rhetoric and very little substance from Hon. Makumire. He had 20 minutes, yet he did not manage to advance a single compelling legal argument against the Bill.

Habibi, there was some drama at Parliament of Uganda today morning. The Speaker came to the house and tried to carry on with business as usual. The LoP, Joel Ssenyonyi rose on a procedural issue & asked the speaker to make a pronouncement on the issues raised by #UgandaParliamentExhibition. The speaker couldn't take it. She began by patronising Joel saying that work at Lubowa Hospital has started & it's all thanks to him. They said, being a special sitting, they need to lay ministerial policy statements first, then turn to other issues. Joel tried protested, but being the gentleman he is, he sat down. Then came Kampala central MP, Muhammed Nsereko, his submission was that since the speaker had made a pronouncement, they had to move on. Sarah Opendi rose up and made a similar argument. At this point, Honourable Ssekikubo who had been boiling for a while, having asked to speak and been ignored became restless. The Speaker, perhaps fearing that Ssekikubo was about to explode, allowed him to Speak. The Lwemiyaga MP went on to start from where Joel had stopped. He wondered why the Speaker was setting the cart before the horse by having trivial issues discussed before the elephant in the room: the allegations against Parliament. Some MPs tried to shut him down. The Speaker urged him to continue saying it was a procedural issue. He went on and on, eloquently putting his arguments across on why the Speaker should have started with a statement in response to #UgandaParliamentExhibition. Then, the Speaker jumped in. “Sit and i give you an answer” she told the MP. Reluctantly, Ssekikubo went back to his seat. Then the Speaker said she will NEVER respond to HEARSAY cooked by people who are angry that she said no to “BUM SHAFTING” (meaning homosexauls). The house went on to discuss the policy statements, and it turned into issues of Entebbe airport and airfields with most MPs saying the airfields in their areas are dilapidated. The Speaker joined them in complaining about the state of Soroti airfield whose land, she said, is being grabbed. Habibi, just like that, the house adjourned without discussing the issues around #UgandaParliamentExhibition

They Rejected Chamisa — Now They Are Using His Playbook The opposition in Zimbabwe have secretly adopted the strategic ambiguity. Strategic ambiguity is the deliberate practice of withholding or limiting information about an organisation's plans, leadership, or operations in order to create uncertainty for opponents and reduce their ability to interfere. This strategy has been used by opposition organizations in Zimbabwe because of the government's oppressiveness. They only contact journalists privately a few minutes before a scheduled press conference. Under normal circumstances, press conferences, public gatherings and rallies are announced at least 24 hours in advance to prepare followers (listeners) as well as the media. Under opposition leader and 2023 presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa's strategy, the opposite applied. Press conferences and public gatherings were deliberately kept secret, and journalists were contacted only a few minutes before the event. This strategy appeared to work well during the period leading up to the 2023 elections. Compared with previous elections, opposition leaders and prominent supporters faced fewer pre-emptive arrests and disruptions of campaign activities, suggesting that the strategy helped reduce the state's ability to target them. Its subsequent adoption by leaders who had previously criticized Chamisa and his methods suggests that the approach had strategic value. The fragmented opposition leaders, despite aligning with known ZANU-PF apologists and each forming their own organizations, have failed over the past two years to mobilize supporters to stage even a single demonstration or mount meaningful opposition against CAB 3. Their activities have largely been confined to the digital space, where much of their energy has been spent attacking their former leader, Chamisa. Beyond this, the roughly ten leaders have periodically gathered for press conferences in bushy, secluded locations. Social media has it that these opposition outfits are funded by Chiwenga, the 2017 coup hero who now faces political relegation. If CAB 3 succeeds, his already slim prospects of ever becoming President could be irreversibly diminished. Such an allegiance may also explain the ineffectiveness these opposition leaders have displayed in opposing CAB 3. A relationship with a ZANU-PF faction has created a false sense of security, making them less disciplined and less vigilant about operational security. It may also have exposed them to infiltration by individuals whose ultimate loyalty remained with ZANU-PF rather than the opposition. This, in turn, could help explain the pattern of surprise arrests involving some opposition leaders. The internet is replete with reports of police raiding homes and allegedly discovering campaign flyers and other incriminating material hidden under beds, inside wardrobes, and in other unlikely places, suggesting that security agencies may have been acting on prior intelligence. This explain why these opposition leaders appeared less concerned about operational security. Believing they enjoyed protection from a ZANU-PF faction, they may have become complacent, making it easier for individuals whose loyalty remained with ZANU-PF to infiltrate their organisations and leak information about their activities.
